Does it have anything to do with the fact that most useful code that will be written has been written and most of the hard problems are now security related?

In addition, they’ve been telling people to learn to code long enough the upper hand devs used to have for salary negotiation is largely gone.

My fetish is sending a document as a copy and then seeing someone edit it in realtime while I’m in it.

Sometimes I can tell someone is having a shit day and I cheer them up by minding my own fucking business because that’s what works for me.

Connect with the natural world. Go find some woods where there aren’t a lot of people and just be alive in them.

Sometimes I find myself on my phone too much. I’ve found it useful to try to remember something I saw online a week ago. Frequently I cannot. This makes me upset at the time I am wasting.

I started disc golfing again last year and I play every weekend and it’s keeping me sane. It’s like walking in the woods with a purpose. I like to go before anyone else is playing in the morning. It must work because my wife encourages it and it means her watching our toddler alone for a couple hours.

My grandpa was always really interested in whatever I had going on, especially when I didn’t think it was worth celebrating. We spent a lot of time golfing together when I was a kid and he taught me a lot about staying calm and looking at me today vs yesterday instead of me vs where I wish I was.

Everybody we ran into seemed to really like being around him. We used to play with a lot of people we rolled up to on the golf course. I try my best to be someone people are happy to see; like they were for him.

I miss him but I carry so much of him inside I feel like I can still hear what he would say. I hope I can be as important to someone as he was to me.

There’s a technical reason they do this that has been pointed out elsewhere but it has the added benefit of filtering out people who believe they are above the process. Most jobs have processes (safety processes, legal processes, etc.). You can avoid people who aren’t ready to accept they may be exceptional, but are applying for a position that does not require them to be.
