I feel like the text editors we get by default do all the things I ever wanted notepad++ for anyway.

Yea but I think part of the point is the corporate politics are not required to do the job, they are required to work at that company.

Also what the op finds simple may not be to average people, but if they have specialized skills and training, it becomes a 'simple' task.

Actually, Gates is just the kernal. The OS should be called Ox/Gates.

Wait. You're telling me they didn't even fucking finish it and people are still mad about the idea of losing it?

Plus Pinky can read and Brain can't, canonically.

"And then you can start imagining what would happen if companies start abusing this, like Microsoft and/or Apple paying to make sure only their OSes load by default."

I'm convinced that this is definitely the end goal for Microsoft, especially with the windows 11 TPM requirement. We are in the early stages of their plan to mold the PC ecosystem to be more like mobile. This is the biggest reason I decided to move to Linux - it's now or never in my opinion.

This just brought me flash-backs of the absolute nut-bar I used to play DnD with that would tap dice on her teeth before rolling them "to check if they were real."

This is the closest thing to context I may ever have to that experience. I thought she was checking real vs imaginary, maybe she was checking if they were... ummm.. real bones? wait. no.

There are almost always ways to verify the correct owner for something like this... None of which it sounds like Microsoft was willing to do, as they only seemed to care about what the current password is.

You are making an assumption that the person can't provide any way to identify himself as the owner. The story as written states they didn't care about anything other than the current password.

Mine is like 6x8 currently... Is there any special benefit to an odd number I am missing or just the extra realestate from going to larger numbers?
