Ibrahim Al-Nasser, a gaming enthusiast from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has set a Guinness World Record for the most video game consoles connected to a single television, with 444 systems hooked up simultaneously.

Al-Nasser's collection spans five decades of gaming history, from the 1972 Magnavox Odyssey to the 2023 PlayStation 5 Slim. It includes mainstream consoles like the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Switch, as well as rare items such as the Super A'Can. To manage the complex setup, Al-Nasser employs over 30 RCA switchers and 12 HDMI switchers, along with various converters for older systems. He maintains an Excel spreadsheet detailing the location and activation procedure for each console. "After a while I noticed that I had a big stack of gaming consoles that I couldn't play," Al-Nasser said. "By adding more switchers, the idea came to my mind to connect all of the gaming consoles I have to the TV then contact Guinness World Records because this project is unique."

Engadget adds:

He's even organized his collection so the cables aren't showing or creating the kind of tangled mess most of us have to deal with when we have just two consoles hooked up to a single television. That may sound like a lot of video game consoles for one collection but it's far from the actual record. Linda Guillory of Garland, Texas currently holds the record for the largest collection of playable gaming systems with her collection of 2,430 items, according to Guinness World Records.

I found this amazing trilogy for free at a swap shop! The Legacy Of Time was my favorite game as a kid! I never played the others, but now is my chance.

A classic and influential beat 'em up, Final Fight, was released in 1989 with massive success. Now, UDON Entertainment has launched a comic mini-series retelling the story of the first game.

  • Storyline The plot follows Mike Haggar finding his daughter kidnapped by Mad Gear and enlisting Cody and Guy to rescue her, leading to a mission to take down the gang in Metro City using fists, feet, and wrestling moves.

  • Comic Details The first issue is out, with four planned. It closely mimics the look and feel of the original game while adding more detail and artistic interpretation.

  • Variants Featuring numerous covers including direct homages to classic Final Fight screens and action movie posters from the '80s, like Streets of Fire.

  • UDON's Store You can pick up the comic directly from UDON's store.

What aspects of the original game do you hope the Final Fight comic series retains most accurately?

I remember a few from various stages of my life (born 1984).

Seeing the demo footage of Sonic 2 in Woolworths and thinking the leaves falling down in Aquatic Ruin zone was so cool and advanced.

The original Sega arcade of Virtua Racing with the moving cars completely blew me away.

I remember my uncle loading up Cannon Fodder on his Amiga, and a REAL song with REAL music came out, along with REAL photos. I was amazed haha.

A few years on I remember a PlayStation demo disc having promo footage of the first Gran Turismo and it looked so real to me, I watched it over and over. The first Driver on PS1 looked absolutely amazing to me also.

It's been quite a journey for Glover, the beloved 3D platformer originally released for the Nintendo 64. With time, it became an N64 classic that many fondly remember, and now it's making a return to a more contemporary console—Nintendo Switch! 🎮✨

Limited Run Games (LRG), in collaboration with QUbyte, is handling the release of this game as a physical edition. Fans can pre-order their copies starting today for $34.99 USD. Pre-orders will close on September 15th, 2024, ensuring availability for a January 2025 delivery.

This physical edition marks Glover's first official appearance on Switch, and with it comes the excitement of revisiting classic gameplay through modern hardware. 🎉

Would you add this retro gem to your physical Switch collection, or do you prefer digital formats?

20 years ago, I used Tony Hawk's Underground's ingame creation tools and some GameShark codes to add NiGHTS into the game. The game actually takes it pretty well despite not being designed with flying skaters in mind. Enjoy this blast from the past!

A unique piece of gaming history has surfaced, revealing a previously unconfirmed version of the GameCube. It was called Nintendo Dolphin, and it showcases design elements that deviate from the final product we all know and love.

Key Features:

  • Design Difference: The most noticeable feature is the circular panel on the console's front, which in this prototype has a white plastic disc with a strange cube design instead of GameCube branding. There's also Dolphin branding present.
  • Power Button Position: Unlike the final GameCube, the power button here is positioned on the right side of the console and raised with a dome shape compared to its design in production.

ConsoleVariations

The post on X, was made by ConsoleVariations, and they're promising more, so keep an eye on their feed.

Tidbit:

Did you know that Isle Delfino in Super Mario Sunshine means "Dolphin Island", and was named for the in-development console?

Which project names do you wish had been kept for the final products? "Ultra 64", "Dolphin"...?

Retro games are often thought of as old games, but a recent wave of indie games inspired by classic titles is proving that you don't have to look to the past to play a "retro" game.
