What’s the secret? We rescued a kitten who now tries to attack our other cat. We have tried feeding them either side of a glass but the kitten just stares or buts against the glass. Our older cat just seems so done with the kitten and us for ruining her happy home. I have bought a pheromone diffuser and been advised just to let them scrap it out. After that I am out of ideas
Just a heads-up, most of the advice I've seen is that letting them fight it out will just make the problem worse, e.g.: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/cat-care/common-cat-behavior-issues/aggression-between-cats-your-household
Ultimately the best thing you can do is introduce cats over a period of weeks by rotating them between separate adjacent rooms. Supposedly this can still help even if they've already met.
Thank you for that. I think the kitten is just playing but the older cat doesn’t want to play and seems harassed. I can see that full on scrapping is not good. However when our cat was younger and tried to play fight an older Maine coon who used to visit in the garden he gently put her in her place. After a time they seemed to become friends and would sit fairly close in the garden and she would copy him.
