!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Hello c/NSQ! As you may have noticed from the fancy “A” next to his name on his posts around Lemmy, our fearless leader AvaddonLFC is now an Administrator, which means he can no longer be part of our moderation team. I have agreed to take over his communities because I believe in what we’ve all been building together as a group. There will be no changes to the current rules or moderators, though you may see some new faces that were already chosen to join the team.

If you have any feedback on our rules or just want to tell us how much you’ll miss AvaddonLFC, this is the place to do it. (Don’t worry, I can take it!)

I am grateful to AvaddonnLFC for building this community and inviting me to join him as a moderator, and to my fellow mods (and hopefully the community) for sticking with me through this change!

It’s very difficult to understand how to look up easily available information because I am a willfully misinformed individual. How do I find information? Is this the correct, very slow and unhelpful place to find basic facts that google would quickly provide?

I often see pajama pants for sale, and they're awesome. However, I never see any pajama shirts for sale on their own. Where are you supposed to get pajama tops?

I love taking vitamin c tablets like candy throughout the day because I have an addiction to the tangy ones. I try not to go above 3000 MG although I know 2000 is the upper limit or something that someone should be taking at maximum. But I want to know if I keep my nasty vice going without hurting myself?

@nostupidquestions When purchasing Music (£0.99 each) how many plays would you say made the purchase 'worth it'?

I don't want to ask duplicated so I want to know how to search before asking.

Noticed this plug on my wall from when I moved into this house, and I just started wondering again about what it's actually for. This is in the UK, if that helps. It's on a big bulky box hanging on the wall below my desk next to two regular plug sockets.

Edit: best suggestion I've seen here is that it could be a fuse box for an alarm system. Makes sense since this house did have several security systems before I moved in. Also, for added context, this is in a bedroom and the wire coming out of it goes straight into the wall.

Saw that there's a Firefox browser named Mull for Android in this thread. I went to check it out in the Play Store, but saw it's not there. Apparently, it's one of those that have to be side loaded. I use stock Android and Firefox, btw.

  • What's Mull about?
  • Why would someone use it over Firefox?
  • What are it's benefits and disadvantages?

I’ve noticed my hair thinning and hairline receding since I was about 25 or so.

I’ve been using Collagen and Biotin “thickening” shampoo but never noticed any difference. My dad swears by some pills he started taking.

What’s Lemmy think? Is he just paying for pills that are placebo effect?

Might be a local thing, but in the US I feel like all the similar radio stations go on commercial break all at the same time. Is this just an iheartradio monopoly thing or is it some odd coincidence due to standard ad deals?

The cards are too expensive and I don't want to spend real money on the game.

So, I'm planning on buying myself a (second-hand) laptop once I get the money. I'm nowhere near tech-savvy so it has to be easy to use, but also I want something that is built to last, as opposed to certain (looking at you, Apple) devices that are desinged to become unusable within a next couple of years.

Any recommendations?

To avoid wasting meat I've been doing this for years. So far it has worked and now I wonder about the science behind it:

If for whatever reason I end up with a piece of raw meat that starts smelling a bit strong I cut the piece into small chunks, press the chunks to remove as much liquid as possible, put the meat in a pan, cover the meat with water, let the pan uncovered, boil it and wait till the water completely evaporates. At this point, meat looks brownish or darker depending on the meat I use and it doesn't smell as strong. I cook it then as I see fit.

I believe by boiling the meat, convection currents take (at least?) some of the bacteria away and this is a safe way not to waste meat. Is this right? Meat always smells better after 'washing' it this way.

I'm someone who believes landlording (and investing in property outside of just the one you live in) is immoral, because it makes it harder for other people to afford a home, and takes what should be a human right, and turns it into an investment.

At the same time, It's highly unlikely that I'll ever be able to own a home without investing my money.

And just investing in stocks means I won't have a diversified portfolio that could resist a financial crash as much as real estate can.

If I were to invest fractionally in real estate, say, through REITs, would it not be as immoral as landlording if I were to later sell all my shares of the REIT in order to buy my own home?

I personally think investing in general is usually immoral to some degree, since it relies on the exploitation of other's labour, but at the same time, it feels more like I'm buying back my own lost labour value, rather than solely exploiting others.

I'm curious how any of you might see this as it applies to real estate, so feel free to discuss :)

I’m going to travel to Indonesia in 2 days and finding the appropriate sim card to use. I browsed the Internet and found buying 3hk SIM from mobimatter is the cheapest option. Is the SIM safe to use? Anyone else ever got a SIM from mobimatter?

The lines are long. The food is expensive. Everyone in the group wants to eat something different. The food taste is a gamble. There are few places to eat.

Does everyone stick together and wait in all of the lines? Split up and meet at some location? Eat on the way to the festival and just hang out?

I am a reddit refugee. Keep seeing that this is supposed to be somehow better than Reddit. As far as I can tell, it follows a similar format, less restrictive on posts being removed I suppose. But It looks like people still get down vote brigaded on some communities. So I'm curious, how it's better?
