"Turtle" can refer to both land and marine testudines

The English language makes this way too complicated. Just call all of them 'shield toads' and you're good.

Actually the marine version would be more accurately called 'shield frogs'

All shield-toads are shield-frogs, but not all shield-frogs are shield-toads.
