Something randomly just popped into my head. A tactic of people trying to stop deforestation is to put like metal (I'm assuming rebar) in trees to destroy the cutting equipment. Did I just make that up, or is that a thing? Thanks!

No you didn't, it's called tree spiking. It was highly popular in the 70s to reduce the expansion of suburbs. Here's a book describing it
