They literally are incapable of caring. They've been carefully oppressed for a century to instill maximum apathy to anything. Son died to alcoholism? Such is life. Daughter beaten by boyfriend to near death? Such is life. Oligarch stole more money and poisoned us? Such is life. Father sent to prison for speaking ill of government? Such is life. Son forced to go to war and killed in combat with his face blown off in an excruciating and horrible death? Such is life.
