I do like random motivational quote from strangers on the internet. But I'm really not, and it sucks that this reminds me that I ain't. The only people that would welcome this are people who already are doing fine. Just my 2cts.

You're still here, fighting for life, of any kind, just like the rest of us. No matter how bad it gets, just remember that you're still here, and you haven't quit. And every day you don't quit, now that's a win. Definitely a win in my books.

Remember that nobody know what they are doing. We are all fighting crazy odds. Life is hard. The fact that you are here today and commenting on this post is proof that you are smashing it. We all have good times and bad times. Just remember if your currently having bad times that good times are on the horizon. I spent years feeling the way you are describing and what got me back to the good times was convincing myself that if i can do one thing. Even one tiny thing to better my situation. Just getting out of bed a few minutes earlier than normal then im making positive changes.

The change starts slow but gets exponentially faster and before you know it you will be better and wont even realise it happened already.

Keep trying. You are brilliant and you need to tell yourself that.

I mean it. Its sounds silly but say it outloud. Laugh at how silly you sound. Just tell yourself every day that you are brilliant and today will be a better day.

I promise it gets better

Respect for trying bud, but I've been trying to reach a dream for 10 years + now, starting to accept the fact that I'll probably never reach it, especially now that my wife is expecting. Trying to make a living as an artist is daunting lemmy tell you that, and it's a bit too late for me. I do hope good times are coming, but I'm pretty sure I'll sabotage them too. I just hope my future child becomes my new dream and I won't turn into a bitter, old grumpy fuck whose detrimental for everyone around. Don't waste your words on me, some people don't want to be saved, or just shouldn't.

I spent 10 years working shit jobs, in warehouses, chefs in shitty pub/restaurants or not working at all. I lost the will to carry on. I became heavily invested in drug taking and time wasting.

My dream was to work in I.T.

I had given up hope that it would ever happen.

But after the encouragement and love from my wife and having a baby on the way i found the force of will i needed to get off my arse and get a real qualification. I had been applying for jobs here and there but didnt really expect to hear anything. One day i get a call and an offer of an interview. I prepped like mad and got the job. 3 years later and ive been promoted twice and now work as a network engineer full time. Im on my way to the next level of my qualification and hope to advance to a senior role in my team.

It wasnt easy to do. More often than not i couldnt do any studying. I was still fighting my lack of will. I was still battling depression. Sometimes i thought i was going to fail and fall right back down to the bottom.

Positive thoughts turn to positive outcomes.

Negative thoughts turn to negative ones.

Thats what ive found.

You can do it.

I promise.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but getting a job in IT and making an artistic career works are not the same thing, both requires work for sure, but the road to "success" is just way more random and daunting if you want to do anything artistic (I've done plenty of side jobs), or you have to be a genius, or be the son of ... I don't have any skill or training beside that. I kick myself in the arse everyday to keep on producing, not really sure if I'm just wasting tremendous amount of time for something that won't get me anywhere. Truly hope it wasn't for nothing. Time will tell.

I dont find it disrespectful. Not at all. I played in a few bands, i play a few inatruments to various skill levels and have done some recording and self production.

I had a few near misses with some people currently in the industry. Roughly 15 years ago my band had a gig lined up where andy mclusky from the 80s band OMD was goong to come to watch us (guitarists dad was good friends with him) but the band split before the gig and it never happened. We supported a few early 00s bands that had some fame at the time, 'inner party system" and "in case of fire" and some orhers im failing to recall.

You are right that in the music industry it really comea down to who you know or how lucky you get.

But i guess if you dont have an in by way of knowi lng someone, in the end and to quote "the office" you miss 100% of the opportunities that you dont take.

You either have a very slim chance but you keep taling the chance. Or you do nothing and have zero chance.

Breaking the music is hard. But i wouldnt give up. If what you arw doing isnt working you need a new angle. Look at what musicians are doing theae days, youtube and tiktok seem to be big self promotion engines. Lemmy, reddit, facebook, instafram are good marketing options. The rest is your own will and effort to push what you are doing. There are ways to game algorythms to your advantage.

Do you have any links to your work?

I do have a few songs "almost" finished (~50 unfinished one), nothing I'm ready to share though, or maybe in DM but they're hosted under my real identity and not copyright protected so it's a leap of faith... Full disclosure I'm a comedian ATM, and I've been working on making a musical career for 10 years, but the main thing I'm battling is myself (it's way worst if you ask me), people say I'm a perfectionist but I really don't see myself as one, I just don't want to hit the market with something half-baked that I'll probably regret later, I do get that you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, but I feel like I don't even have the requirements to take a single shot yet. Like you I had a band when I was younger, it felt just so much easier with other people around. Producing music alone in my home studio is kinda depressing NGL... Thanks for the kind words though buddy, seems like I needed to vent a bit. I'll send you a copy if somehow I manage to produce a full album...

Well i hope you finish some. It sou ds like you are well on the way so dont let go. Keep pushing. I look forward to hearing something when its done.

I dont know you so i cant tell you if you are a perfectionist or not. But i can say, so what if you are?

If your music isnt ready then keep going until its ready.

Good luck. Hope you get what you want.
