As a "leftist" why should I cheer for an oppressive oligarchy? That makes no sense.
I think it's very sad what's happening there. And so wrong. LGBTQI people don't harm anyone.
It’s a reference to the fascists on hexbear and their friends, who all call themselves left and make up a large part of Lemmy. For them, left is anything that’s anti-USA.
Aha I have encountered some of those yes. It's why I left lemmy.lm (whose communities seem to be highly participated in by hexbear). I thought they were LGBTQI friendly but I quickly learned otherwise (Especially the T part seemed unwelcome there). I see what you mean by anti-USA too. I like beehaw a lot more so far, thank you.
It’s sadly far wider-spread, it’s why I left the broader fediverse, returned to Reddit, and joined beehaw directly without subscribing to any external communities.
Look, we all know that Hexbear is questionable. There's a reason we defederated from them. But let's not go around throwing terms like "fascism" around like they don't mean anything. We all know Hexbear is full of Marxist-Leninist trolls. We know.
I mean, there's also a reason that Marxism-Leninism and Stalinism was historically referred to as "red fascism": Soviet ultra-nationalism, fetishization of violence, authoritarianism. They were very cosy with the Nazis when it came to carving up Poland between them.
Yeah they're internet trolls that picked up the mantle, it's not like they've done the work do deal with their internal issues.

They mean the tankies, of whom there is a large population on Lemmy. They indeed do not make sense.
They're less of them on beehaw than elsewhere. Moreso to be found in lemmygrad and lemmy.ml.
Still, I wouldn't understand why a tankie would be supporting today's Russia. There is really no pretense of ideology left. The country is basically run by the mafia whose only ideology is "TAKE". They don't even pretend to be something else anymore.
Arguably the soviet union was like this too. I'm socialist economically (and progressive socially) but I wouldn't consider the soviet union socialist. It was really just a veiled dictatorship.
Because Russia is anti-West, and that's literally all that matters to them. Doesn't matter what Russia, China, North Korea, etc do. The West is evil so they get a pass. Horribly stupid logic.
Tankies tend to be hyper-nationalist. The USSR was hyper-nationalist.
Tankies tend to project their own Soviet ultra-nationalism onto Russia and larp like it's the same thing.
