The best project management system I've ever used was note cards taped to a wall. Not only could you see status at a glance, the act of moving the card from "In Progress" to "Done" was extremely satisfying.

That is best for a small team who work in the same office space. However if you have someone who works remote, you are a large team, or you are the manager of the team it has limitations.

There's a name for that system, it's called Kanban. It was developed in the 1940s by an engineer for Toyota named Taiichi Ohno.

Pretty sure Jira has kanban board views.

It does, but it's still attached to all of the bullshit in Jira. It's one more thing to look at there, not the thing that's used to manage.
