In terms of becoming a real competitor of YouTube, this is a huge step. Accessibility is a must.

Could PeerTube have crowdsourced captions? IIRC, YouTube used to have this, but removed it.
I guess it could, but implementing it in a decentralized system is probably more complicated at this point than having computer generated ones.
I still donβt get how to actually use peertube beyond links that other people post here on Lemmy.
You can use https://sepiasearch.org/ to search across most PeerTube instances, and you can use NewPipe to view videos too (you have to add each instance you care about manually)
I havenβt used it much either as often times the instances I would make accounts to would go offline on me
It's a federated system just like Lemmy, Mastodon, ...
(One of the) first step would be to find an Instance that you might like to join. https://joinpeertube.org/instances
Then, an App that can also handle peertube would be e.g. NewPipe - which is also a very good 3rd party app for YouTube and alike. https://newpipe.net/
It's a shame there's practically no adoption. I'd love to see more content on the network.
