They just can't stop turning everything into a giant box, how is this retro?

The massive windows, steeper windshield, interior cloth choice on the 1958 model, the round headlights in the front, the side profile, the silhouette, the body shape.

Boxy SUVs are a much better use of space. I’ll take a boxy SUV over a “coup” SUV. As well, while this is technically a Land Cruiser Prado for other world markets it is smaller than our last gen Land Cruiser in the states. So less of a giant box technically than the last model. It did however lose the split tailgate which is/was my favorite feature. 😔

Is this just for US release? Australia has an existing assortment of Land Cruisers including the new 300 series which looks nothing like this. Also, how can they claim this is retro when the 70 series exists and has been virtually unchanged since the 1980’s?

Yes, it is for US release, where we don’t have either the 70 series or the 300 series.

Where can I mount the 30 mm anti-aircraft gun?

That thing is huge. It's like a Defender copy now.

Defender with Toyota reliability sounds a lot better than a land cruiser with rover reliability.

According to autoblog it’s actually smaller than the previous Gen.

Lol the Land Cruiser that you guys get is still smaller than the L300 international model, it's based on the Lexus GX which is smaller than the current gen L300 Land Cruiser/Lexus GX.

So the rest of the world gets the real Land Cruiser, but the US gets a “Land Cruiser” that isn’t the Land Cruiser. Only Lexus in the US gets that…

I was pretty excited to see it, especially ticking so many of my boxes (torsen center! manual hatch!) but I'm not sure I'm up for blowing past 50k and not getting a semblance of fold-flat rear seats but other than that I'm sure it'll sell like mad.

Everyone is going to go nuts over this, but I just don't see the appeal.

The Bronco was a very cool retro inspired design. Even the Lexus GX which shares a ton of parts with this Landcruiser looks better. A few parts of this Landcruiser looks cool, but overall it's just not doing it for me.

Reminds me a bit of the FJ cruiser

Yay, more squares and rectangles!

I see the Toyota Bronco has released
