So each server is hosted on someone's server they personally pay for? Who owns shitjustworks? If they pay for server space, wouldn't reposting meme be more expensive as they would like to have posts saved for years?

@thedude currently pays for the server out of pocket and ultimately has the powers around here, but chooses to run the server diplomatically along with their admins/mods. There are some ideas in the works about how to pay for the server including buying our own hardware and crowdsourcing costs for hardware/energy use.

Lemmy really needs an impressum of sorts...

Looking at the post history of the 4 admins of shitjustworks, I assume it's @TheDude. They seem to have made all the posts about the instance, including the first post, and announced the joining of the other admins.
