Someone apologising for a repost? That's howyou know it's not Reddit.

Can people start apologising for posting a video instead of an article?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago

I also think most educational videos I see posted are not worth watching compared to quickly reading an article. But this 5min video specifically is a well-written and concise opinion-piece.

and post a transcript instead?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

YouTube videos actually have transcripts now.

Youtube doesn't load in my default settings and i can't bother to fix it in the webview of my lemmy app.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

Okay. My app just opens YouTube links in revanced.

I just don't see the point in a diskussion on a free decentralized network about something to which the core info is hosted on a proprietary platform.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

Please. This would be great.

Here is an alternative Piped link(s):

https://piped.video/watch?v=7CDKvdlD6uQ

Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.

I'm open-source; check me out at GitHub.

Am I the only one who can't get piped links to work for longer than like 30 seconds? They usually don't even play for me, but this video played for a few seconds before crashing and giving me error code 3004. Just curious if I'm missing something supremely basic. YouTube ads have become so goddamn intrusive that I'm not fucking with them, and ublock keeps getting outsmarted. I miss the old days of a short ad every ten minutes or so of content. I'm not putting up with multiple ads for this fucking 4 minute video.

If you're on Android I use NewPipe. Pretty reliable. It's in FDroid and I'm pretty sure Github.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

It doesn't just work in browser like the link bot suggests?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Piped does, NewPipe is a different project and as far as I know it's Android app only. There's also Freetube (browser and I think apps), invidious (which I think is federated) , and I'm pretty sure the revanced app is still going strong. I'm sure other people are more in the know than I am but hopefully that can help. I don't know how active it is but Piped has a Lemmy that might be able to help you as well. https://feddit.rocks/c/piped. Have a great day!

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

TIL. Good bot.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

You can use the browser or an app, just like YouTube

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

They’re always blurry as hell for me and pause to buffer frequently on iOS.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Why do I see 4 comments on lemmy.ca but there are 28 more in the original post ?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago

Canadians have a lower average IQ so their instances are drip fed comments at a slower rate.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I see this on almost every post. My guess is it’s comments from instances we are not federated with?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

Never heard that Lemmy.ca deferated from our beloved sailors.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

I sometimes have this happen on feddit.ro. It happened now, only shows 9 comments.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

¿Por que no los dos?
