In other words, “laws = ethics when it suits my argument”.

What about prohibition?

Anti-abortion laws?

Laws against trans people?

Just make an account on a different instance. That’s a lot easier than making one of your own.

I’d recommend either Sh.itjust.works, sopuli.xyz, Lemmy.ca, or Lemmy.dbzer0.com.

Sopuli is primarily Finnish, and Lemmy.ca Canadian, but both state that they’re open and welcoming to all.

I’m on sh.itjust.works and it’s been great.

The problem is that these communities never linked to any form of illegal content. It’s against their rules to do so. So no laws were being broken.

…you realize there are dozens of other instances right? Nobody has to make another one lol, you can just join one of the others.

I want LW to remain a place for nuance and that recognizes the intricacies of topics.

I just physically cringed

Nobody’s linking anything

So what? Do people really care that much about Lemmy’s karma points? Making an account on a different instance is pretty much a non issue.

Whoa wait wtf, they blocked a mushroom community? I didn’t hear about that

Lemmy.ca users have been saying that anyone’s welcome, regardless of where they’re from. Sopuli.xyz is really solid too, and also welcomes everyone.

I’m on sh.it just.works and have enjoyed it a lot. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter a whole lot though, you can still join all the communities you did before. So which instance you choose isn’t a massive deal.

Believe it or not, I do respect their decision. After all, this is their instance and it’s their right to decide what to do with it.

This is also a complete overreaction started by a transphobic troll account, that doesn’t actually protect anyone from anything. Both can be true.

But again, they’re not even linking to any pirated content, torrents or otherwise.

What content? You mean the comments generally discussing piracy? Because there’s no actual pirated content being hosted, or even linked to, in that community.
