I'd like to encourage more upvoting and boosting too! I like leaving comments, but I know not everyone does. The points from upvoting themselves don't mean anything, but it lets me know if my post is appreciated or if someone else's post is worth reading past the headline.

Thank you for explaining this, I've had federation turned off for a while now and have been wondering why so many things from Lemmy still pop up.
So much porn, regular porn, amateur porn, furry porn. I have 18+ turned off and some of it still slips through sometimes.
This graph has some scale issues; 5 days and 2 months look basically the same and the difference between 5 years and 7 years is also minimal. They would have been better off dropping the "World Wide Web" which doesn't fit anyway since it isn't an app and giving more space to everything else.
Thanks for the shout out. It seems that the original thread was deleted, so I'll re-explain my idea here. The capped overall karma is to remove the incentive to grind for reputation points. There is fundamentally no point to them, but there is clearly some psychological need driving us to want more of them. This should help with karma farmers.
The magazine specific reputation points is so that people can tell when a troll has entered their specific magazine. A troll would have high overall reputation but in your magazine it would be very low, which allows for them to be quickly identified and banned.
@RheingoldRiver I like your idea of a percent breakdown, but it wouldn't help magazines identify spammers. A spammer can create an unlimited number of magazines with legitimate sounding names and spread out their grinding among them. The percent breakdown would look normal unless someone really dug into it.
What I don't have a solution for is creating an incentive structure that discourages shills from creating alt accounts in order to gain more influence.
I only have so many interesting things to say. I don't really want to post for the sake of generating content, so making 5-10 posts right off the bat seems like the wrong way to go about it. I think it'd be better to make one post a day or one every other day or so that anyone who comes in can see that it's recently active.
Learning to drive. I've met a few people who didn't learn to drive until their late 20's or 30's and there always seems to be some awkwardness to their driving. On the opposite side, learning to drive at 16 seems to encourage reckless habits to form, people I've known who waited until 18 have much better driving habits on average.
