Heroin. I don't inject heroin into my blood.

I agree with the general vibe of police are bad, in Winnipeg they recently killed a woman because they were driving off-road in a park at night, but the idea behind "sin taxes" are generally as a deterrent, as well as a way to try to mitigate damage to others.

I've been to places that are "cop bars" unknowingly, so the porcine populace may have have a DV-juice problem.

It's taxed the way it is, because the only drug that kills more than booze are cigarettes.

Those taxes also go to help innocent people who are harmed in crimes that are often related to alcohol, like domestic violence, assault, and auto-incidents, also things like uttering threats and mischief.

Some places have Jr and Sr Kindergarten, so kids go a year earlier in those places.

In places with a 2-year kindergarten that is the case, most places in Canada don't do "jr. Kindergarten" so kids start a year later. Just like how Ontario used to do Grade 13, and nowhere else in Canada did.

You need to use a carot/arrow on both sides of the word to use superscript on lemmy.

^this^ becomes ^this^

Edit: Header removed: maybe we shouldn't encourage the use of headers.

Not clickbait at all.

Wet-bulb is the combination of heat and humidity, and it is deadly in 6 hours. The article is about the first time they have lab tested the conditions on humans to determine the exact numbers, instead of just using the 35C estimate that we have been using.

Reader mode of Firefox helped me be able to read the content of the article, despite the unacceptable layout.

Here's the short version:
Wet-bulb weather is when, because of a combination of humidity and heat, you can't naturally cool off with things like sweat.
There are certain combinations where the weather only needs to be 25.8C for a health younger person, or 21.9C for an elderly person for "wet-bulb" to be achieved.
Climate change is real, and it's causing more instances of "wet-bulb" weather.
Outside activities may not be possible in the summer in certain parts of the world, people will die, the rich will move.

That doesn't make it any less awful.

Thankfully, a lot of browsers have a reader mode to undo such sins.

That's some awful website design.

Fortier pronounced "Forty-er" as in "my fort is more fort-like(fort-y) than your fort".

It's quite common in my city. There was an event called "Moonlight Madness" where the local shops would be open late. It was in the paper, there were signs put up, big chalk designs all over the sidewalks downtown. "open late" meant "7:30" to most shops. It wasn't even dark enough for there to be moonlight, just my madness.
