It's a fine sample size. That's a normal national poll. A poll of 1,000 people has a margin of error (from random sampling) of 3%. There are other errors than random chance that could bias a poll, but random chance is what sampling size is generally managing.

Antifascists have more important things going on, but I'm surprised they used Twitter for their trial notes, in the replies of a chained quote-tweet thread that is unreadable by anyone who does not have an account at a site owned a fascist anti-semite.

"Retreating glacier" feels like a euphemism to make the destruction of glaciers sound like they just decided to move somewhere else.

This is a story about protests and mask bans in the US and non-governmental actors can still be a threat to protesters in a "free" country.

This is obviously different in countries that are not free.

So... the US? People are regularly arrested for perfectly legal, not even a shadow of a doubt, activity at protests. And protesters are vulnerable to not just cops, but dangerous actors who support the thing they're protesting against. Whether it's doxing, billionaire-funded slander, your boss not liking the cause, or actual violence, there's plenty of reason not to want your face to be easily identifiable, even while orderly protesting for a just cause. Never mind health concerns like not wanting to catch COVID (or breath tear gas).

The idea that orderly protesting is safe in the United States is incredibly naïve.

This also reveals how political the end decision is. The liberals didn't sign on to the decision because they thought it was the correct one, they signed on to a compromise to get a favorable ruling that gives the middle-conservatives some cover.

I applaud any lack of oversight that might result in more money being defrauded from the NRA.

This is the continual refrain whenever the Democrats think about putting forward someone who isn't a white man. Nominally left people were saying the same thing about a black president in 2008. There's always this appeal from people who say they totally think it's dumb, but we need to think of the sensibilities of bigots. Then we do the thing anyway and it turns out most people have bigger issues to think about and those that are dedicated to their prejudice already recognize that the Republicans are their party.

Stop playing devil's advocate for sexist boogeymen and just live your values. The Republicans know that sexism isn't a winning issue with undecided voters, that's why they're telling their base to STFU. Democrats don't need to help enforce the social structure of some imagined gettable bigots.

Also, as much as they called it the Biden-Harris administration, I didn't get the impression that Biden actually liked her or believed in her at all. They did photoshoots and will perform the bosom buddies in campaign events now, but all her jobs were jumping on grenades for him and she never got to claim any of the administration's wins. That super-Zionist and stubborn old man Biden was just one undelivered objection from Harris away from changing his opinion seems fanciful.

*sigh* For the Democrats. The party we're talking about right now. JFC.

Which Democrats? All 50 of them? Yeah, they're not all progressive. But that doesn't mean that progressives aren't part of the party. Being a progressive pushing for more progressive ideas than the entirety of the caucus would support doesn't mean you're not a Democrat.

Progressive Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) announced Wednesday that there are currently enough votes in the Senate to suspend the filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade and abortion rights if Democrats win control of the House and keep the Senate and White House.

“We will suspend the filibuster. We have the votes for that on Roe v. Wade,” Warren said on ABC’s “The View.”

She said if Democrats control the White House and both chambers of Congress in 2025, “the first vote Democrats will take in the Senate, the first substantive vote, will be to make Roe v. Wade law of the land again in America.”

Harlan Crow (of the Clarence Thomas patronage scandals) donated the max individual donation ($3,300) to Cornel West's campaign, which invited obvious criticism.

Text of his response on Twitter:

As an independent candidate and a free Black man, I accept donations within the limits of no PACs or corporate interest groups that have strings attached. I am unbought and unbossed. Despite my deep political differences with brother Harlan Crow (who is an anti-Trump Republican), I’ve known him in a non-political setting for some years and I pray for his precious family. I find it hypocritical for those who highlight his $3300 donation to my campaign but can’t say a mumbling word about the PAC-driven billion dollars to support the genocidal attack in Gaza sponsored by their candidate! I’m fighting for Truth, Justice, and Love! Onward!

Frankly, the pleasant words make this look much worse than just saying "if some asshole wants to send me money, I'll keep it". Sounds like someone he wants to keep on the good side of, but y'know they're only political differences, not stuff that really matters.
