Fun thought experiment, but yeah there is no way it ever happens. The simplest reason is that as soon as Ukraine manages to restore full control over its own territory, they will race to join Nato and the EU. Both of which would not accept Ukraine while holding russian land.

If we are talking months, even should Ukraine speed up the process a bit, then i think it is fair to assume that a few days for travel don't make a significant difference. Especially should there be other advantages to training in existing facilities.

How long is the typical training of a soldier? You are losing 2-4 days to travel, if you are doing it outside of Ukraine. So if we are taking weeks it might matter, but if it's months I doubt those few extra days would matter.

My two cents as a random German:

• regardless how this actually turns out to affect things in the end, it is again a PR disaster. Seems like we are true masters in this regard. Despite imo supporting Ukraine pretty substantially so far, the vast majority of controversies like these seem to be about our involvement. And at least for this year there is a decent pipeline of new stuff already confirmed, plus as we've learned nothing is set in stone forever.

• In principle I don't really mind the idea that stuff gets financed through these frozen Russian assets instead of directly by us. As long as it's overall sufficient in providing Ukraine with the weapons they need. What does seem like a huge blunder and pretty bad is to cut funding before this other scheme is in effect or even truly secured. This can (and might already) have negative effects on Ukraine.

• This really unfortunate timing might have at least partially to do with the upcoming state elections in Saxony and Thuringia on September 1st, and Brandenburg on the 28th. In all 3 the right wing Afd and left Bsw, both pro putin/against support for Ukraine, are strong. Whereas particularly Scholz's SPD is looking weak. So maybe this is only a short term play to gain sympathy point in those regions? If so they've learned nothing in all those years watching these extremist parties grow. In any case I'll at least partially hold judgement until at least the first two elections are done.

Are train tracks actually something one would target with an expensive weapon like a long-range cruise missile?

I was under the impression that this wouldnt be worth it, considering replacing a destroyed section of tracks would be rather trivial. Unless you target harder to repair structures such as bridges.

The question is if they actually need more land or just more resources. I imagine they already get the latter for dirt cheap, so why bother actually invading.

Ich finde ehrlich gesagt diesen Satz schon im Artikel etwas komisch. Irgendwie wird hier finde ich impliziert, dass sie das hätten machen sollen und ihnen diese Option deiner Meinung nach absichtlich nicht dargelegt wurde. Aber es wurde doch offensichtlich festgestellt, dass sie eine polnische Asylbescheinigung haben, was sie meinem Verständnis nach automatisch für ein deutsches Asylverfahren disqualifiziert. Nach § 29 Abs. 1 Nr. 2 AsylG. hat man kein Recht auf Asyl, wenn bereits Asyl in einem anderen EU-Staat läuft, oder irre ich mich hier?

Schön, dass du erstmal abwartest, um das zu bewerten. Um die menschenverachtenden Umstände unseres Asylsystems zu verstehen, ist das zum Glück nicht nötig.

Soll das jetzt ein Vorwurf an mich sein? Keine Ahnung warum du denkst, dass ich hier in irgendeiner Weise das derzeitige Asylsystem unterstütze. Im Gegenteil, gerade weil ich den derzeitigen Zustand für falsch halte, finde ich es wichtig den Fokus dort zu behalten, wo auch tatsächlich das Problem ist. Und hier ist die Lage wie ich finde nicht unbedingt eindeutig, deswegen wäre es schädlich das zusehr in den Fokus zu rücken und vorschnell ein Urteil zu fällen.

Das fürchte ich auch und das Problem ist eben auch, dass der Laie wohl nicht in der Lage sein wird die Qualität zu beurteilen. Denn genau darum nutzt man ja die Beratung.

Und wer sich erst mal nur selbst schlaumachen will, sollte - so die Empfehlung von Finanztest - kostenlose Alternativen im Internet nutzen und beispielsweise nach den aktuell geltenden Regeln oder auch Gerichtsurteilen suchen.

Stellt sich nur die Frage ob das wirklich hilft. So schlecht die Beratung teilweise ist, im Internet wird es genauso Totalausfälle geben. Und Gerichtsurteile werden auch nicht einheitlich sein. Da bleibt das gleiche Problem, dass man es eben wahrscheinlich nicht leicht selbst beurteilen kann. Der einzige Vorteil ist, dass es kostenlos ist und man sich mehrere Meinungen einholen kann. Aber gerade die Probleme, bei denen man Beratung benötigt werden tendenziell spezifischer oder komplexer sein.

Ich habe aber eh nie verstanden, warum man Twitter jemals als eine Plattform für Informationsaustausch oder Diskurs zu nutzen. Das Format ist doch eigentlich nur für das veröffentlichen von kurzen Statements gemacht à la "Veranstaltung x muss heute leider abgesagt werden" oder "derzeit kursiert x information über mich, diese ist falsch". Kein Wunder, dass der Populismus gewinnt, wenn man ein Format so falsch benutzt, das für wie für ihn geschaffen ist.

Ehrlich gesagt ist mMn nichtmal Lemmy/Reddit für tiefergehende Diskussionen geeignet, da Beiträge viel zu schnell aus dem Fokus verschwinden. Eher als News-Aggregator mit oberflächlicher Diskussion. Formate wo auch ältere Posts wieder angezeigt werden, falls es aktive Diskussionen gibt wären da etwas besser.
