I've only had bad experiences with debian. First off the installer is broken, second apt is a fucking mess compared to the best package manager, emerge, and third I've had bootloader issues(or lack of bootloader issues) when trying to install.

For now, I'll just try it in a windows VM with USB passthrough. Any help would still be appreciated.

I've got a magellan gps and I want to load some maps onto it. The only way to do so is with the magellan vantagepoint software. I ran the installer and there were no errors or any notable issues, but when I run the VantagePoint.exe file, it returns this error:

I've installed .net like the only thing I could find said, but haven't found a further solution. Does anybody have other advice? Thank you very much in advance for the assistance.

so i just installed it from the AUR and it works great. Thank you so much for the suggestion. Could you inform me on any downside there might be to wine-ge as opposed to regular wine?

I don't use a launcher, I just run games from the terminal.

I might be stupid as shit, but is that not only for lutris?

I'm running arma 3's launcher with wine, and I ran it on my last distro perfectly fine, but this doesn't run at all for some reason. I've tried troubleshooting but nothing. It has something to do with wbemprox.dll which I can find and disable, but it doesn't fix anything. The error message is: 0150:err:sync:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 7FC818A0 "../wine/dlls/wbemprox/table.c: table_cs" wait timed out in thread 0150, blocked by 0148, retrying (60 sec) 0120:err:sync:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 7FC818A0 "../wine/dlls/wbemprox/table.c: table_cs" wait timed out in thread 0120, blocked by 0148, retrying (60 sec) 0024:err:sync:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 7783112C "?" wait timed out in thread 0024, blocked by 0120, retrying (60 sec)

$LANG variable (iusearchlinux.fyi)

How do i set the $LANG variable without using export? I have set my locale.conf to LANG=en_US.UTF-8 but LANG is still always set to en_US which is not valid. I'd prefer not to use .bashrc or /etc/. Thanks in advance!

I've installed gentoo but there seems like there's so many sacrifices. I love that it's all open source, but I really don't mind closed source software now and then, because after all I would be using it to play closed source games. The biggest compromise I've observed is the very long build times. I have a lukewarm cpu(i3 10100) and it's powerful enough for good gaming but the build times are still like 10x minimum for some software. All this to say, is using gentoo really worth it? I love the idea behind it, and if I was doing criminal activity I'd definitely use it, but is there some absolute upside to it or is it a really good OS for privacy that sacrifices in usability?
