I notice when I open the app if I don't go to "all" communities then I just see the same posts for about 3-4 days (mostly). I go to the communities I subscribe to and see there are plenty of posts there that are much more recent with upvotes and activity that would have appeared at the top of my home feed in BoostForReddit.

I'm still getting the hang of Lemmy so I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong or just the nature of the beast right now because it's a different algorithm than what's on Reddit.

My issue, for example, I follow a lot of tech/software development related communities and if I go to "subscribed" all I see for the first probably 10 posts is [email protected] despite following many many other communities in my local instance and even other instances. I definitely like seeing [email protected] in my feed but would like to see more from other communities too but I am not sure if that's something I can really control.

Also, sort of an adjacent question, what exactly is "local" supposed to be in Boost? From my understanding it should be only posts from communities in your local instance, correct? For me, local shows posts from many instances from my local ie programming.dev (the only one I have an account with) as well as lemmy.world, lemmy.ml etc etc.

I would love some feedback here as I work to make Lemmy my new Reddit. After Reddit officially killed BoostForReddit and other 3rd party apps again the other day I decided I was tired of finding workarounds to keep it alive and wanted to officially ditch reddit (with the exception of using Google to search reddit due to the huge archive of information there).

Thanks for any help!

my last couple memes, I had to shrink them down until they were pretty embarrassingly bad before I could upload them. maybe I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to reducing a file size? but it would be nice if we could upload larger files

The Boost for Reddit app still worked for a while after the big shutdown with workarounds, like creating a mod account or using revanced.

Not anymore, as of today, the Boost for Reddit app is completely 100% dead now.

Goodbye reddit forever, hello lemmy

For a week or so I haven't been able to download videos, neither gifs nor webp (haven't tested other formats yet).

Pressing the download button only grabs one still frame.

If I open it in browser I can download fine. This also worked a couple of weeks ago.

Edit: The video in this post of a cat exploring a tube gets saved like this first frame photo of the lighting through the tube.

If you as a user encountered this, you can disable it via turning off the internet and switching the sorting method to something different; then turning on the network again.

Hi. is there a way to not receive a message in my inbox each time a comment is posted on one of my posts ?

Coming over from boost from reddit, which only shows gifs in comments as a small square (tappable to show the .gif), I am absolutely heartbroken to see that Lemmy boost actually supports them. I've never wanted to see a reaction gif in a comment. Never will. It's IMO the worst feature Reddit ever implemented and something lemmy should've never copied.

I'd greatly appreciate it if there was a setting to show inline stills as the target link, given that they're sometimes useful and relevant to the discussion, and a setting to either show in comment .gifs as a little square/target link. Even better would be the option to treat comments with .gifs in them as if the user was blocked - i.e. not show them at all.

One of the features I really miss from the snu site is multireddits. It would be really handy to have a similar feature available in boost that can aggregate posts from multiple communities into a single feed view.

This is a problem with regular Lemmy web as well. When you select the text and press the button, it inserts the > symbol only once instead of at the start of every line.

Take this sample text (from here)

Implementations of Markdown are available for over a dozen programming languages; in addition, many applications, platforms and frameworks support Markdown. For example, Markdown plugins exist for every major blogging platform.

While Markdown is a minimal markup language and is read and edited with a normal text editor, there are specially designed editors that preview the files with styles, which are available for all major platforms.

When I use the quote button:

I have two ways to supposedly "clear read" posts when viewing a community, however doing so has no effect. I've got the app set up to hide read posts, so clearing read posts should let me see the ones that were previously hidden but that does not happen. My only way to see those posts now is to open the community in a web browser.

This occurred after clicking a reply I received from the inbox tab and clicking the "1 more reply" button.

This doesn't seem to occur with a direct link, but nonetheless this comment can be found at: https://aussie.zone/comment/9118680

Screen recording:

NB: Lemmy.world is having ongoing federation delays (and has been for several months). Neither upvotes or replies from lemmy.world are being received by my instance for around 1-2 weeks. I promise I'm not just ignoring any responses

Boost fails to open .mp4 for me. When I browse "All" there usually is some mp4 content, especially from ... well ... nsfw instances. Theese almost always fail and I see just black screen. Firefox on mobile opens it without a problem and so does Sync For Lemmy. Do you have this issue or is it just me? F.e. can you open this link?

NSFW:

I see this:

I don't know if this is caused by instance or by Boost but as I said, Sync doesn't have this problem. And I like Boost more

I'd like to have a feed which consists of a group of communities dedicated to a specific topic but exists apart from the subscribed communities in my Home feed. Can't currently figure out how to do this with Boost, or Lemmy in general. Is it possible?

21

When someone links to a community if you open the post and then follow the link it works fine. If you're browsing with cards and try to follow the link from the card without opening the actual post it attempts to open the link in a browser which fails because the link is not the full URL. It would be nice if clicking the link would take me to that community on that instance, which is what it does when you open the post and click the link

Every other setting in theme > customise colours gives the ability to input any hex value, other than primary and toolbar text. I'd like to change the tb text to a shade of grey, instead of b/w, and the primary colour to a shade of green not available from the default selection. Is it possible that full customisation be implemented for these two settings?

Does this happen to anyone else? As soon as I open the post (it's in the [email protected] community) I briefly see the contents and then Boost crashes. So it could be a comment causing this or the post itself when fully loaded. I'm using a Pixel 6 with Android 14.

  1. I'd like to have a refresh button in the bottom bar

  2. I've been a relay for Reddit user for a very long time. I love the ability for a link to load in a panel that can be swiped down to view while reading comments and then swiped back up without actually closing it.

Is there some way of quickly and easily copying my block lists from one account to another? I love that I can create accounts on multiple instances but as far as I can tell there's no mechanism to copy over my filters from other accounts, so it makes for a lot of repetitive blocking.
