Honest question. Don't you think the new account indicator is too much strong? In some way, it highlights comments from new user (the opposite should be better, imho)

I agree. I think both the emoji (or icon) and the 7d should be faded (or darker) to make it less empathised.

I agree. OP, try embellishing older accounts. Something like the streak indicator on Duolingo (without a streak mechanism, of course)
