I'm sorry, my ingrained urge to be polite is greater than my urge to avoid human contact, which, in turn, is greater than my urge to live.

You're not going far enough. Those tracks are embedded in the road surface, there is nothing physically holding them in place. Kick them in the ribs and tell them to get the fuck up and stop interrupting the tram service.
