Where are you even coming across this? It doesn’t even hit my all feed. And I browse new on the regular.
Edit: more so asking about .ml cuz I defederated from hexbear a long time ago. Hexbear isn’t anything but trolls. They’ll morph into whatever’s going to make you mad at the time.
Comments and posts expressing sentiments like this seem to have quite a strong showing there.

What do you mean? This is the kind of Russian propaganda we should be isolating, and its spread and acceptance on lemmy.ml should be reason enough to defederate.
I don’t know enough about any of it to care about any of it. I just don’t understand how this mindless communication on the internet that doesn’t spark any change in the real world matters. This goes for all political keyboard warriors.
If you don't see a problem with allowing open channels for Russian propaganda, I can't make it any clearer to you.
I’m saying how would I even know that that’s what it is. And if it is it’s a pretty pathetic forum to be spreading propaganda. No one in any of these threads are being persuaded by anyone. Everyone has their opinions and stick to those opinions.
The messaging is clearly Russian state controlled, this person is either being fed talking points or, more likely, is an idiot who has bought into the propaganda hook, line, and sinker. In any event, propaganda replies on widespread communication to the masses to influence with its falsehoods, and we should be combating that as an instance by isolating it as much as possible to keep it from spreading.
I'm gonna go a different direction here.
Silencing propaganda is how it expands more.
You cannot stop propaganda. Some of it will always get in. Banning the position being propagandized demands that observers choose sides. Some portion of those people are going to actively seek out the propaganda message to "make an educated decision" (bOtH sIdEs) Some portion of those people are going to buy into the propaganda.
On the other hand, if propaganda is not silenced, the response will be one of showing it to be bunk. This would serve to make the propaganda less effective. Yes, some people will still buy into it, but fewer people than if it had been silenced.
Think about it like scam emails. You can see by the awful grammar and spelling and nonsense email address that it's bullshit. The people who respond don't. They are more likely to fall for it. Silencing propaganda in one place doesn't silence it everywhere, but it does focus its message to people who are more likely to fall for it. They can then strengthen each other's belief by association, and begin expanding on their own.
It's why the big picture is that it's one giant propaganda machine, but when you look closer, it's a bunch of loosely or unrelated local "cells," operating independently. Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, Patriot Front, plenty of others nobody had heard of, and the (as yet) less violent collections like Tea Party, Freedom Caucus.
It is far better to answer propaganda than to silence it, but we do all have to agree, as individuals, that that's what we do. The far-right has already decentralized, and reasonable people need to do the same thing. You don't have to be a registered Democrat, you don't have to approve of Biden; you can still contribute to having decisions in government made on the basis of objective reality. You may still not like the decisions made, but your differences will be political ones, and not ones of fact (for the most part).
Luckily, all it takes is standing up for your principles.
Yes, that one user is quite annoying because they make things sound well researched, when they frequently aren't. I've seen that user around, and I just don't engage with them anymore.
But the rest of the instance isn't like that. Yeah, there are some tankies and whatnot there, so I'm hesitant to sub to anything political on that instance, but most of the rest of their users are totally fine. Their users don't typically attack other users, so you're only really affected if you choose to engage, and you can stop at any point.
So that's why I disagree with defederation. If a user on their instance harasses you, report it. If the admins of that instance do nothing, report it to admins here. If there's a pattern of their admins allowing harassment, we should defederate.
But having stupid ideas isn't grounds for defederation imo.
