"Five percent of the population is now dead or wounded. Sixty percent of them are women and children. Some 200,000 housing units have been completely destroyed," he continued. "Every university in Gaza has been bombed. There is now imminent starvation taking place."

"So why you would invite somebody who has done such horrific things to the Palestinian people?" Sanders added. "I think it's a very bad idea."

Thank you Bernie.

"If Netanyahu comes to address Congress, I would be more than glad to show the ICC the way to the House floor to issue that warrant," said Rep. Mark Pocan.

classically based

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (3 children)

So many things would be better if the ICC had any power in the US :(

Instead, because it was established in the middle of our aughts war crime spree, we passed the Invade the Hague if they Arrest any of Our War Criminals Act.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

And so many people who deserve it would be in jail.

I hear people in the Upper Midwest sometimes accidentally drive to Canada because of confusing signage and/or accidentally taking one wrong turn.

Someone might be able to exploit that to get him to an ICC signatory country without being tried for kidnapping or trafficking..

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Shit, if you're on surface streets you can cross the Mexican border by accident, and getting back in is a hassle.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

From the Upper Midwest?! Exactly HOW fast IS your car?? 😛

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Lol, no I meant where I live in the Southwest

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

My country is red when I think it should be green. I'm not happy about it. Sanders always makes the most sense.

So Johnson didn't invite Kenya's president to speak in Congress, even as Kenya is leading an international mission to try to bring stability to Haiti which should do more to solve what the Republicans see as a border crisis than the Republicans ever did, but he's inviting Netanyahu. Morals aside, is he trying to torpedo what's left of the US's international influence?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Yes. But also the GOP has noticed the democrats are split over Israel. So they're trying to throw gas on that divide before the election.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Nope, he’s trying to be Moses.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Moses didn't get to live in the nation he created.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Not to well-actually you, but there’s no archeological evidence to suggest the entire flight-from-Egypt thing actually happened.

Israelites, as a whole, were never enslaved by Egypt and never wandering through the desert. There probably were refugees absorbed that came up from Egypt, which creates the stories that then became part of the collective psyche, but it was a relative handful.

Hilariously this statement was followed by cheering.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Lindsey Graham never found an issue he couldn't be stupidly hyperbolic about.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

I find it rather ironic. It sounds like an admission of guilt lol

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 months ago

He's such a drama queen.

“They’ll come for the gays next! i know what I’m talking about, because I’ve come for the gays many, many times.”

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

In more ways than one?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 months ago

What exactly are they supposed to do?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Could backfire on the GOP if he publicly praises Biden for his support.

More likely though Bibi will shit all over Biden despite his unwavering support, which I would think would snap Biden out of this lunacy but I can't imagine him changing his stance at this point.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Biden has supported far more than he should, but it absolutely not been unwavering. Are you even paying attention?

This is far more likely. Biden like many Democrats has been blindly pro-Isreal for literally 4-5 decades. He's a sure thing and he will be treated as such. There's no advantage to praising Biden and no disadvantage to shitting on him. Seems Israel has more of a right to American tax dollars than Americans do .

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Short term yes, but it is a strategic risk long term.

Part of the reason Democrats are turning on Netenyahu (and, by association, Israel) is genuine policy concerns and grassroot pressure.

However, another part of his problem with Democrats is that he has spent the past decade inserting himself into US politics as a Republican alligned figure. That both makes Democratic politicians more willing to oppose him, and gives the Democratic base a permission structure for opposing him.

Free speech being stifled by the Liberals. They're more and more like the far right every day.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Explain to the class how exactly you think the concept of "free speech" applies to the leader of a foreign country looking to butter up our elected officials. He can go on Fox "news" if he wants a willing audience.

Yeah, they won't let me give a speech to Congress either. They're stifling MY free speech too.

What's that? That's not what free speech means?

"Freedom of Speech" is not "Freedom to get a free soapbox anywhere you feel like whenever you feel like".

In your version, anybody in the World has a right to address Congress whenever they feel like, in which case it should be first come first served and Netanyahu can join the line just everybody else (as giving priority to some would interfere in everybody else's "Freedom").

So you think "free speech" means a foreign leader who is actively committing a genocide must be allowed to speak directly to Congress?

Do you think Putin should be able to? What about NK or China's leaders?

How pissed are you when peaceful protesters are attacked by cops?

Because that actually is a free speech issue. But no one is entitled to give a speech to Congress.
