Old people who still use Twitter are the new old people who still use Facebook.

No thanks, I'll just take your word for it.

Twitter.

Insanely popular online yet I've never met a single soul in real life who even has an account. My cousin literally just made his first one to promote his band, like a week ago.

imo, Mastodon replaces Twitter, and effectively would if everyone moved at once. Most news, if it isn't there is mirrored there.

There is the whole trans porn and titties situation on any default account, tho, same as lemmy.

I am literally only on Twitter for the porn at this point. If I want actually intelligent microblogging I just peruse Mastodon via my Kbin account.

People that are still on xitter today are mostly terminally online people that doesn't have a social circle outside of their xitter circle. Yea Mastodon feels like early day Twitter with lots of people just replying to what they found while exploring shit. However, it won't reach critical mass if the influencers don't move to it. Part of the reason Twitter got big in the first place is you can see lots of celebrities being candid there. I remember Hamilton's meltdown on Twitter because he didn't see his teammate in his follower list.

I have a Twitter account. I haven’t used it in at least 7 years.

I also tried to make one a few years ago called realDonaldTrumpParody, but Twitter wanted my phone number so I gave up on that

titties situation

Umm, what? (im not anywhere near twitter and feel verry ignorant)

I really like having joined Lemmy to replace reddit just to see content about xitter which I never visit or have an account for

I think the position and positive effect that Twitter had for years, especially for journalists, is what makes these news surface more and more often now. Twitter had its bad side but it did what it did well, maybe quite well until they fried to introduce voice chat groups (to mirror Clubhouse if anyone remembers that abomination). Now with their transition to X, we are witnessing the shit era and it will soon be over so hold on tight.

soon be over

I have zero confidence in this.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

people still use myspace

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Individual ownership always leads to that kind of corruption.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

This is the way.

The thing formerly known as Twitter.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

No, because using Twitter is supporting a #fascist sympathizer.

Is the authoritarian platform acting like an authoritarian platform? How odd.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (3 children)

This has got to be illegal somewhere, right?

It was, when we had net neutrality.

E: I have been corrected. FCC net neutrality only applied to ISP’s.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Twitter is not and never has been an ISP or anything resembling an ISP.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Fair, you are correct.

Twitter also has a broken unsubscribe link in their floods of email updates. I tried so many ways to click that link, I just had to block them. I know that breaks laws and think they can be charged a big amount every day that it's not fixed. Maybe someone can look into that.

Downvote the piss out of me, I deserve it, but I am lazy and under a great deal of stress at the moment. I hope putting this out there will let someone else do it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

0 downvotes as of writing this, your nowhere near being out of line. Your okay

It’s twitter. Who really cares? It’s like…. A store that’s got a few weeks left before closing down. There’s nothing of any real value in it, and no one that’s relevant in any way goes there.

I feel like Elon Musk is of the same mindset I was on during my adolescent years cyber-sexing on mIRC. Surely adding an X at the end of my handle makes me sound way cooler than I am.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Spamming X's in a username gives me massive Xbox Live squeaker vibes.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

who the fuck cares. its ded
