Fun fact: orange (the color) is named after orange (the fruit) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_(colour)#Etymology

[–] [email protected] 19 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Colours that live up to their name.

What color would you like this wall??

Ooh the color of an orange please.

Sure thing, it's really where there isn't a word for that color, isn't it?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Or passion fruit... Them shits are delicious.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago (2 children)

My experience with passion fruit is that they tend to shove it in every single mixed fruit juice, and what it does, is give those juices just a bitter aftertaste.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Also, it's the citric acid giving all those juices the bitter aftertaste

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

May be, but a citrus fruit juices don't have that aftertaste, even if they're mixed with banana, mango or whatever. For me the common denominator is the passionfruit.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Bananas definitely live up to their name. Very banana.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

As a banana I can confirm, I'm very banana

Star fruit = shaped like stars Durian = "duri" means spike

[–] [email protected] 12 points 10 months ago

I feel like if you have grapefruit as a fruit that does not live up to its name then grape should be on the other list.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 10 months ago

Have they even seen a dragonfruit? Shit looks and tastes like a delicious dragon

[–] [email protected] 10 points 10 months ago

If you've only ever had the good awful underripe honeydew they put in fruit trays for catering, then yeah you'd probably think it's underwhelming. A good, ripe honeydew is my second favorite melon.

Have you ever eaten a passionfruit? You gotta get your fingers in there to get the juices flowing, then you gotta slurp it up with your tongue, licking it clean .. passionfruit surpasses it's name.

How is strawberry not included, it's a double, neither straw nor berry

Grapefruit grows bunched up, kinda but not really like grapes.

Passionfruit is named for its flower, which has structures that correspond numerically to the stations of the cross and are thus a reference to the Passion of Christ. In this sense, "Passion" refers to suffering, not love or joy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

So, your saying, for a passionfruit to live up to its name it would have to cause stigmata, right? That's pretty hardcore.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago

Well, orange you glad?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

But how about dem apples? Dem apples are pretty good.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

What's with the honeydew hate? It's one of the juiciest fruits out three and tastes amazing.

Fruits that sometimes live up to their name: pear

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

I think technically the name lives up to the fruit, didn't the fruit come before the colour? Or am I thinking of mandarin?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Someone's never tried to fuck a passionfruit

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

yuo better take passion fruit off that list if u know what’s good for you
