https://github.com/keiyoushi/extensions I found this external repo. you guys might take a look

[–] [email protected] 19 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Fresh install, it works! Extensions are required to be "trusted" but other than that everything seems to be in the same place.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

Sadly, some of mangas are missing. So, I need to redownload the mangas again

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Do you need to reinstall the extensions for this? I can't get it to work with TachiyomiSY. Edit: maybe some extra context: TachiyomiSY is still attempting to fetch stuff from the removed repo, even though I've added the new one, so it still fails.

[–] [email protected] 39 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Unofficial extensions are still being updated. I've got working bato and everything. Haven't run into issues so far. I'm not sure how this korean company got to them or why, since they're not even hosting the content. But either way, things should be good for now.

Tachiyomi is too good to fail. It's the best manga reader that has ever existed. It's open source. If they need to offload extension support onto less organized entities, then so be it. The community isn't going to disappear.

They just sent a hail mary DCMA directly to the devs that's not even enforceable. If it was, they'd have to go through GitHub with a DCMA request. But the Tachiyomi devs folded for no reason

Easy to say when you’re not the one getting the notice/threat

Hey, really glad to see you coming here!

I found another spare for repo. if the current alt goes down https://github.com/ThePBone/tachiyomi-extensions-revived

I use batoto extension (revived) from this repo, it works on TachiyomiJ2K. Not sure with the latest Tachiyomi

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

Used this for Batoto and Mangadex. Works for TachiyomiSY

Tachiyomi Alternatives:

PS: I'll update the list if find more.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

The official forks:

  • TachiyomiSY
  • TachiyomiJ2K
  • TachiyomiAZ

Other forks:

  • Dantotsu adds support for anime and novels as well.
  • Aniyomi adds support for video as well
  • Animiru is Aniyomi without the manga parts (ie only for video)
  • Yokai no idea what's changed here besides name/icon...

Lol they might as well just shut down at this point. Without extensions Tachiyomi is basically a non-app.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago

I think their strategy is fine to avoid any potential lawsuits like Paperback. But, their notice period is quite surprising.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago

Yes but just because they dont want to deal with the hastle doesnt mean others wont keep supporting it. Especially in the manga-space where stealing is very much an everyday occurrance

[–] [email protected] 21 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (2 children)

Bro wtf. Tachiyomi just got killed.

Is there something similar out there? I think its time to leave the sinking ship

Hope the company dies.

Found something:

More (settings) > Browse > Extension repo

Copy & paste the link: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/keiyoushi/extensions/repo/index.min.json

This will help bring back most/all of the extensions. As for untrusted sites, just click it. Although, I am not sure if updates for that extension are still going to work.

I been using Kotaksu and so far I love it, actually some of the manga sites that went shut down on Tachiyomi are available there, for now.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Wonder if they will figure out a way to import Tachiyomi backups or series lists now....

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Probably not, they explained it in the FAQ, it's different storage formats and Tachiyomi has their own file extensions wich they can't work with... MANUAL MIGRATION IT SEEMS...

i need a week for that... 2k Mangas to migrate :/

It would be cool if the anilist sync would be bidirectional this would solve the problem.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

https://kotatsu.app/manuals/faq/general/#can-i-restore-my-tachiyomi

Can I restore my Tachiyomi backup to Kotatsu?

No, you can't. This is due to the difficulty in supporting and adapting the .proto.gz or .tachibk format that Tachiyomi uses. Also Kotatsu and Tachiyomi and its forks have different data structures that they use. For Neko for MangaDex users we recommend to use Nekotatsu.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Will look into that as well, thank you.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

I wonder how reliable this workaround will be in the future. Will the external repositories be purged in the future as well? Perhaps straying away from github is a more sustainable answer.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 8 months ago (2 children)

What was the Kakao dispute?

[–] [email protected] 28 points 8 months ago

The devs just completely folded to some bogus copyright claims against their extentions

[–] [email protected] 23 points 8 months ago

Essentially Kakao Entertainment abused DMCA to get all extensions removed despite the Extensions themselves not containing any DMCA material. What allowed this to spiral so out of control (it started out with only Bato.to, Mangadex and Kissmanga being removed) was that the Tachiyomi devs have absolutely 0 spine and 0 will to prevent DMCA abuse. They just folded at the requests immediately without any sort objection or demand to go through GitHub instead (this approach in particular has worked in warding off false DMCA claims because that way the corporations have to somewhat publicly press their illegitimate claim, worked wonders for youtube-dl afaik)

[–] [email protected] 13 points 8 months ago

Not surprised in the slightest. Having a doormat DMCA policy and then not even using GitHub as a shield (like youtube-dl for example) is just asking for it. The dev response doesn't really help so I guess the App is dead. Maybe a fork will pick up the pieces but I have no trust in the main repo devs to do the right thing or work in the users interest.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 8 months ago

What a sad day to wake up.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Time to set up a Komga server, I guess.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago (5 children)

If you don't already have one, use Kavita instead. It's newer, has surpassed the Komga interface, and is still supported on T.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

What do you mean newer? And Komga is also still supported

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

Oh, Komga is good, I just find everything about Kavita to be more modern. More options for layouts, deeper filtering, tablet and more phone friendly UI, etc.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Thanks for the recommendation.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

How about the order of the contents? I actually have both installed but use Komga exclusively because Kavita always wanted to order my comics their way and not in the way I wanted (folder order).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Ahh, I tag my media using Mylar3, which adds a ComicInfo.xml to each file. Kavita seems to prioritize that over the filesystem.

I did an export/archive of the Git repo from a commit before they got rid of Batoto and Mangadex right after they nuked them (ie, no Git data, just the bare source code) yesterday morning. I'd be willing to share it with someone willing to rehost/restart development on them.

What does this mean? Are they gonna remove all extensions just like that? We have to download the mangas now just to read them?

[–] [email protected] 22 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

Yes. Tachiyomi has removed all extensions from the app. Forks like TachiJ2K are affected as well. However, you can still download and use the existing extensions. They've been backed up to some external repos. Just choose the new repos as the extension source and you're good to go. But as they're not getting fixes and such anymore, those existing extensions will only continue to work until they don't anymore. After that, idk, maybe some new extensions will be developed by someone else, or you'll just have to bring your own content.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

TachiyomiJ2K is what I use.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 8 months ago

yeah, the main repo on Github have been deleted. we have to rely on external sources.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago

https://github.com/KotatsuApp/Kotatsu is an option. It's no Tachiyomi but it works.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago

What an unfortunate (or maybe fortunate?) time to have installed Tachiyomi for offline reading

I guess I should be glad I was able to get what I needed before this happened

[–] [email protected] 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago

all tachyomi derivatives that use that central repo will be affected

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I didn't update the app and all my installed extensions work fine. What's the MO for now? Update and re-add the extensions or just chill?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

it will be better if you start moving to third party repo because those old extensions will be unmaintained by tachiyomi dev

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

I see, ya that makes sense, thanks

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

I am a Komga user because finding comics is a mess for me (in Spanish) but I am surprised at how easy it is to find manga with Tachiyomi/Aniyomi (I think the latter has the extensions broken for a while).
