The saddest part is that it will probably take a conviction in this trial for many US citizens to realize that Trump is not a viable presidential candidate. The state of American society is frightening.

I didn't meant the speech, but how you see your current situation as citizens of the USA.

As a European, I just can no longer follow the political discourse in the States. Whether in the form of memes or news - you can't be serious.

I don't understand what there is to discuss here at all. If the US president had immunity as a matter of principle, he wouldn't be a president, he'd be some kind of god-king (even kings couldn't do whatever they wanted).

I suppose that was to be expected from a country that has never recognized the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

This doesn't seem like an open question to me.

I miss the appreciation that was shown to developers and content creators not so long ago. I just get the impression that people take everything for granted these days, even when it comes to extraordinary things that are created by just a few people without the support of multi-million dollar companies. Maybe that's just a misperception on my part. But anyway: Support Lemmy, FOSS and all those awesome content creators!

Be that as it may. I simply think it is a mockery to provide a little humanitarian aid while at the same time supplying weapons to Israel and continually vetoing a UN resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. This makes the US complicit in the genocide of the Palestinians imo. Pretending that this is not the case by delivering a few relief supplies to the dying people is nothing more than hypocrisy. I find that disgusting.

The hypocrisy is really hard to bear.

Well, somehow he is right: all over the world, the excessive greed of these scoundrels has been allowed to continue for far too long.

I think it is unfair to not make him face the consequences of his actions.

I have the impression that the lion's share of all posts on Lemmy are reposts or screenshots from other platforms. I don't mean links to other sites of course, after all Lemmy is a Reddit clone and thus a link aggregator. I just think that Lemmy can't survive if there is no way to make people aware that a particular post is OC to a fediverse-Plattform. I suspect that the Lemmy community would appreciate the effort that went into creating OC that wasn't posted anywhere else - there's just no way to tag Lemmy OC.

Especially paired with ignorance.
