Squarez Deluxe.

License was changed to Freeware and it's one of my all time favorite DOS games.

I spent 20 years as a producer, developer, and project manager in the lottery and games industry.

Trying to explain how lottery and games work to people and have them hear me makes me want to cry.

This keeps coming up and I keep replying, not to break anyone down but to point out the reality of the situation that a lot of people don't seem to get.

Reddit administrators, developers, and even the leadership has gone on the record saying that they retain all copies of comments, they cannot be deleted (delete action only marks it as "deleted"). Furthermore they have said they will undelete/unedit any comments or account at their whim and some discretion.

Have you ever search-engined something and came to a Reddit post, and you noticed that the original OP is [deleted]? That is what I described above playing out in front of you.

You cannot retract your past participation in Reddit, what is done is done. The only meaningful action you can take is to not participate there.

A digital assistant that can follow me around using the data my phone provides, and then use that data to actually suggest ways to improve my life.

"My phone" knows everything about me, where I go, what stores I visit, how long I'm there, transactions, etc. It knows all my contacts, all my social relationships, all my appointments, shopping lists, all my text messages, etc.

"Assistant has determined you stop for cigars about every 4 days. We've found this online store that will deliver your brand at a lower cost"

"Assistant overheard you mention that you need sugar, and it is absent from your shopping list."

"Assistant will suspend realtime driving directions because it overheard you say 'shut the fuck up, I'm stopping at 7-Eleven first' "

Your comments are coming up FOR YOU.

You are so far out of your depth and you know "just enough to be dangerous" - I wish you well.

Don't associate ME with those banjo-pickin' inbreds.

edit: I had referred to the people of Saskatchewan as a bunch of banjo-pickin’ inbreds. I was wrong to make such a statement, and I’d like to apologize. The vast majority of the people in Saskatchewan have no idea how to play the banjo.

I'm glad you feel satisfied, I really am.

I'm not invested in this conversation to break you down or tell you you made the wrong choice.

I just think it's much better for people to live in the reality of the situation. And the reality of the situation dictates a few things:

  1. Any effort to remove your comments in a permanent way from Reddit servers is not happening, and the technical reasons have been described; effort to prevent the sale of your comments in this manner is fruitless.

  2. Reddit leadership, administrators and developers have gone on the record saying that they simply restore deleted comments and those from deleted account at their sole whim and discretion.

The natural conclusion is to accept that you got burned by Reddit, and if you don't want to contribute to them anymore, the only method to do so is by not participating in their app or site. You cannot retract your past participation and people need to understand this. Every time the discussion comes up about deleting one's comments and account, it should be clearly pointed out by informed individuals that it will not achieve the desired objectives.

I really think it is better to describe how hopeless it is, so people get an understanding of some of the more sinister motives and machinations Reddit has.

I live in central Canada.

I am reading the comments, and I am noticing that other people's experiences are very different than mine.

For me, Google Search has reached the point where it will not even give me results for my search terms. I say this without an iota of hyperbole.

It's so coincidental that this conversation comes up, but I actually sat there yesterday agog, looking at my desktop Firefox browser window... Scrolling through the entire search results page and realizing that not a single thing was even close to what I searched

It is noteworthy because I have been observing a steady decline, but it was the very first time I could make use of literally nothing that they gave back. In an unsettling way, the gravity of it hit me emotionally right there.

I'm sorry to break it to you but there's no hope.

Reddit admins have gone on the record recently saying that the content from deleted accounts will just be restored at their whim.

You have no chance to survive make your time.
