Thank you for your kindness.

Wrote a very long reply, and lost it when starring your post... :-(

In short: Thanks for all the great info and went down quite the rabbit hole with that link to your post, that linked to another person's post. Great discussions happening there. :-)

But it seems like Friendica or RSS might be the way to go. It's not about posting videos to Peertube from Mastodon, but about having a hub to follow and interact on other networks like PF, PT, Lemmy, Kbin, FF, etc.

Thanks again!

AHA! You might have give the answer that was needed! Friendica might be the best thing to use, as you are speaking of doing exactly the idea that made this post: interconnectedness and interoperability.

Tested Friendica now and it could reply and follow a Beehaw community and vote on it from Friendica! So perhaps this is the best way to go forwards, will test it now on Lemmy, Kbin, Pixelfed and Peertube as well.

Thanks for this, you solved the case! :-D

Perhaps it was written badly, but it's more of a space to be able to follow/like/comment on a photographer's work on Pixelfed, or a video maker on Peertube, or a Lemmy thread, or a Mastodon post. After having read all the replies, it seems it's only possible for Friendica or by using RSS.

So will do some more research into that. Just don't want to create a whole bunch of accounts on so many sites, when it is said that you can connect to them all from one place, like on Wikipedia and other sites and videos that was looked at for research into understanding what the Fediverse is, speak of the Fediverse as this place where everything and everyone can interact with each other with ActivityPub protocol.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Thanks for your kind response, it really was not intention to upset anyone or badmouth the fediverse, it was more of a frustration from what might just be a misunderstanding of how the Fediverse / ActivityPub network actually connects and interacts, vs. what they show on wikipedia and some other sites / videos when doing research on what the fediverse is and how it works, exactly.

PS: Looked at the article and wow, it's a bit high in dev-talk, so can't really grasp what's being said, unfortunately. :-/

Hi there, thanks so much for your nice explanation and taking the time to respond. :-)

Two questions, and please understand that these come from someone with a non-dev background:

  1. According to wikipedia Lemmy is 4 years old and in alpha/beta, but Mastodon is 7 years old. The AT protocol was only introduced in 2018, and most of these networks have implemented it. And on another Wiki page there are images showing how they can all talk and connect with one another. So is this not the case? Lots of people have commented with the fact that they don't want them all to connect, as it will muddy the waters. But with the reading done, it gave the impression that these networks can all interact, if they're federated of course.

  2. And this might be a terrible question: Would it be possible to install say Mastodon, Kbin and Friendica instances on one server if it's just one person that's playing around to test the behind the scenes and see what they can do? Assuming you could then link them to sub-domains: eg. Kbin.websitename.com Mastodon.websitename.com, etc?

Thanks for your response, was actually thinking of also creating a personal instance, for a small group only, then one can play around and set things there as you would want.

Stupid question, and please understand this comes from someone with a non-dev background:

Thanks for the info, makes sense, went and read up some more on Mbin now, and strangely most of their instances are named under Kbin...

Tried to do a search on Lemmy and Kbin on a post from Beehaw, and it couldn't find anything. So will have to check if Beehaw has blocked them or something.

It seems that Friendica (using it via the @[email protected] 3rd part Mastodon app, that it can reach and comment on Beehaw just fine. Read somewhere on one of the replies on the post that Friendica / RSS might just be the best bet in interacting with most / everything in the fediverse.

So will be doing more tests on that.

Understood, but this is not about getting everything in one place or being connected to everything. It's about the fact that it sounds like you can connect to all (federated) instances and networks (Lemmy, Mastodon, Pixelfed) etc. But in reality it's still very fragmented, and more people and servers are defederating all the more.

So yes Lemmy's aggregation makes sense there, Pixelfed's photos, or Peertube's videos make sense there. But a lot of sites (eg. Wiki example in original post) and videos watched on the fediverse topic, make it sound like you can create an account in one place and then reply, like, comment etc on the other networks as well.

Thanks for the feedback, but unfortunately what you said is way above this guy's pay grade, so it's not making sense. :-(

But you sound like you know how it works, so thanks for your knowledge and help in the fediverse. :-)

HOPING TO EXPLAIN BETTER:

Sorry. Perhaps the thoughts were not clear, but have watched a lot of videos and even Wikipedia makes it seem like they are all social networks and that one can follow / post / reply on the other networks:

It isn’t about following everything and everyone, but about not wanting to have a Pixelfed account to follow a photographer, or not needing a Lemmy account to follow interesting topics, or not needing a Mastodon account to follow a blogger / writer. It is perhaps then a bit oversimplified on the “intro to the fediverse” videos / posts that’s been seen on the web. Was hoping to have one single account on any of the above, and then just interact from there, and not needing an account for every single one of them.

This is what makes the Fediverse so frustrating, been using: #Kbin #FireFish #Mastodon #Friendica #IceShrimp #Lemmy.

And no, they don’t speak to one another / find one another or are able to follow / like / reply to one another as one is told the Fediverse works.

The truth: some speak to some, and it rarely works both ways. Eg. Mastodon can do a lot more interacting with Lemmy, but not the other way around.

And then there are those that defederate from their own kind / federated social network, splintering the Fediverse even further apart.

Have had to either join new servers + delete current accounts, just because the server that was suggested, happened to be a server that others chose to defederate with.

Now with many accounts + many instances, been trying to find the best place to just have one space in the Fediverse + be able to communicate, follow and interact with other Fediverse users.

Maybe it’s this is wrong, but this has been the experience for almost a year now.

EDIT: APOLOGY

Seems like there are multiple posts, that was not the intention. :-(

English isn’t first language. Was trying to do the “change my mind” meme format they use on other sites to ask someone to prove you wrong, which is what was hoped for.

Apologies again.

This makes no sense, really sorry. Made a post and when looking for it, it just showed nothing. Look here is a screenshot of my personal feed. It only shows the comment on a fediverse post, which I then created into a stand-alone post, in hoping someone would be able to explain or prove me wrong.

And I can’t even go and delete the posts, as when looking inside the posts on my profile, it shows nothing either.

REALLY sorry for the multiple posts, thought the app was bugging out. :-(

Really sorry. Will check on laptop to see if I can find and delete the multiple posts from there…

Hi there,

Been using a keywords list on Lemmy to filter out specific words or topics. It works well with the posts, but not in comments of posts.

Is there something being misunderstood? Please help, would be greatly appreciated! :-)

Hi everyone,

Not sure if it’s possible, but would like to know if there is something like this:

  1. Can one use just one app / social network to follow the other Fediverse social networks?

  2. And if so, does any app / social network allow for bulk loading a list of keywords to use for blocking. (Everything seems to allow to only insert one word at a time….???)

Have had other Fediverse social accounts in the past, but the splintering and keywords issue always becomes a mission. Very surprised that even Twitter / X also only allows one word at a time. Instagram, Facebook and Threads allow for bulk loading with commas, which is also great.

EDIT:

Added:

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but assume some of you might be on other Fedi networks as well? ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE: using an iPhone, so Android apps won’t work unfortunately. :-(
