Setting aside the issue of whether this post is overstating the risk of MDM software on a personal phone, I had a tangentially related experience that might provide a tip for anyone who's in a similar situation.

I like to have the convenience of checking my work messages and chats on my personal phone, so I have Teams and Outlook installed and using my work account.

When I first went to sign in to my work account on Outlook, I got this message like "Outlook needs to run with administrator privileges in order to provide the necessary security for this account" and shunted me off to some system settings to approve the permissions. Big nope.

So I tried Outlook Lite, and it made no such demands and works perfectly. So for anyone else who's run into this, try Outlook Lite! I hope this helps somebody.

You might not need official testing if your doctor is comfortable prescribing meds without it. talk to your doctor and see what they think. based on a discussion of your experience, they may be willing to prescribe you a minimum dose of an ADHD med to see if it helps. it's not the most scientific way to confirm that you've technically got ADHD, but assuming you're physically healthy, the worst case scenario would be that you have bad side effects, stop taking it, and you'll have wasted some of your time.

laughing a stupid little laugh after I'm done talking. probably comes off as nervous and awkward. I hate it.

as a front end web developer, I've found it useful to know what user agent is requesting a page in order to load conditional styling. For example, to compensate for Safari's god-awful outlines support (pre-version 16).

I really like Kingdom: Two Crowns on my steam deck.

there's a content creator in the board game scene (makes game review and how-to-play videos mostly) who goes by Bebo. that image does look kinda like her. her YouTube channel

I've had my pixel 8 for about a week and couldn't figure out why the full content of notifications wasn't showing on my lock screen, even though I had "show all notification content" and "show sensitive content when locked" both activated.

Turns out that if you use face unlock and have the face unlock setting "skip lock screen" active, full notifications won't show on your lock screen. It seems a little weird, but that's what it was.

I hope this can help someone. Cheers!

oh that's interesting. I was under the impression that a GP wouldn't prescribe simulant meds without sending me to a psychiatrist first. I'll have to talk to my GP about it then. I haven't discussed it with her since I came off atomoxetine.

I'm a 45-year-old dude who's only now coming to grips with having probably lived my whole life with undiagnosed inattentive-type ADHD. My wife and online communities like this one (and formerly Reddit) have helped me see that I may have been playing life on hard mode by pretending I didn't have ADHD.

My doctor had me try Strattera (atomoxetine) about a year ago, but all it did was make me feel like I was nervous.

Have any of you inattentive-types had any success with simulant meds? I know it would be a lot of trouble to get officially diagnosed and even more trouble to fill the prescription, so I wonder if it's worth trying.

edit: Thank you everyone who shared their experience. It sounds like Adderall or Vyvanse are effective for focus and executive dysfunction. If anyone is still keeping tabs on this conversation, have you had any improvement in forgetfulness/distractedness with simulant meds?

I don't mean to be an aggressive anti-capitalist (but I'm gonna), but the suggestion that the solution to "dopamine addiction" is to "throw yourself into your work" makes me extremely suspicious.

there are some print-on-demand card and game manufacturers that might be less expensive than you think. I'm a hobbyist game designer and I've used thegamecrafter.comthegamecrafter.com as well as makeplayingcards.com to have custom cards printed, and it wasn't particularly costly.

but if those services do charge more than you want to spend, the thing I recommend most strongly is that whatever stock you decide to print on, cut them with one of those sliding-blade paper cutters. don't try to cut them with scissors. they'll come out a lot more even.
