The best way for me that I found is using Soulseek, sadly it's proprietary but it's really nice as a lot of people share on it

Dont know if it's a good idea to implement that in anyways, shorts/verticals formats are not meant to be profitable to people, too short to learn anything only to make money of it

Don't why you want to use Telegram but in any cases this is not a good idea, even with Forks. It maybe remove blobs but don't change the Telegram infrastructure

Hello, I'm beginner to QubeOS and I don't know really how to use it properly. I'm not really an absolute beginner in Linux (running it since 2 years), but I've never tried it and these I wanna try so installed it 2 days ago. At first it's very good, not laggy, etc.. It's what I want! But today I want to really set this thing up for every day use, but it's not really convenient to use for some of my use cases. So I need your help for global tips to use the system and for my use cases :

  • Never really liked use the default Firefox ESR + hardening, used the flatpak app of Mullvad, basically I want to know the way of installing apps

  • Want to set up "hacking" lab, mainly Kali or Parrot and other to use with the networking to "hack" them, basically I want to run multiples VMs

Thank you guys 😁

I recommend you first to not use the distros that are just declinaison of Ubuntu with an other DE and KDE Neon is not worthing the time too. Personnaly I recommend you choosing a more "advanced" distro, KDE can be install on pretty much any distro, so try new things. I don't know where you are in your Linux journey but you need to test what fits you the most to find something perfect. So if you need something not really hard and can be installed with KDE, I recommend you Debian, kind of the best for your use case, BUT YOU NEED TO TEST.

EDIT : When using Debian you're not going to get the most recent packages, but it's a very good distro for the other things.

Even if it's not the same protection as with a VPN sharing your mobile connection is a better idea than using your real ISP connection. Cause in fact most of mobile ISP use about 200 people on the same IP adress, that's why for example these IPs are good for scraping, because Google and others web services whitelist these IPs cause they know that they are going to ban 200 people

Use an Open Source launcher, here my recommandations :

  • Lawnchair, basic launcher to replace stock launcher

  • Kvaesito, search based browser and a lot of customization

  • Mlauncher, fork of Olauncher, minimalistic and text based

EU approval for chat control (www.patrick-breyer.de)
submitted 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

We need to do something against this. The EU plans to apply a law for a chat control in the territory. The approval say that all the chats and the emails would be send to the government to do AI scanning to in fact “find the children abuses”, even when using apps with end-to-end encryption (the EU will ask the services to open their secrets keys… we know that Microsoft, Google and Facebook have already agreed to this. On the other hand Signal for example had said that they would leave the EU if this law will be applied). We need to counter this, because this restrict the privacy and the security of the citizens. Even if you’re not living in the EU, you should take a look because that could encourage others to do the same! Please take a look of the situation and make you your own idea of the case. Find out here the votes results for now, by countries and more... mepwatch.eu

Some others organizations criticized the approval, a open letter/petition was posted here : globalencryption.org

PS : I know that this was posted on the community a bit before (https://lemmy.world/post/16093632) but I think this is really important and the people should know it. That's a really regrettable decision for the population. thx

Hey, I'm always searching a home server (already post here https://lemmy.ml/post/15083947), I was thinking about a Lenovo P500, but maybe the PSU is a bit too special... My budget around $140, will buy used parts and one of the most important thing is the power efficiency (don't care about the peak wattage but want to stay around 50W idle and settling at about 70W when doing some work). Preferably I wouldn't like to buy mini PCs. 😃 Thx!

Just a simple question : Which file system do you recommend for Linux? Ext4...?

EDIT : Thanks to everyone who commented, I think I will try btrfs on my root partition and keep ext4 for my home directory 😃

EDIT : I'm going to use a Lenovo P500 (at around $130) with 8 threads (will upgrade it later) and 64gb of RAM. It support the E5 v4 family so that's great. If someone knows the power consumption, that would be cool!

Hello, I want to build a "homelab" and I'm searching for a server, what do you propose me as good options? I need something with at least 64gb RAM, can buy used, and minimum 16vcores.. Around 150$ If you have any good options let's comment below 👇 THX ❤
