Giant insects and way more fires! It's happened a few times in the history of our planet.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules (interactive)
Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

So you're saying the plot of Earth Defense Force 4.1 could be real if we remove enough CO2? That's hella incentive right there!
He's assuming that the inverse of too much CO2 is too much O2.
You got me there, my brain did just jump to high O2
That would be the case for extra O2, not for less CO2.
"Not enough CO2" probably would be bad news for trees and other photosynthesizing life, since it's what they breathe. But there was actually a period of time millions of years ago when the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere was much greater.
Yeah, if I'm remembering correctly, there was more oxygen in the atmosphere when dinosaurs were around. The more oxygen allowed animals to grow larger, uncluding bugs 😬
Yeah, bugs are most heavily size restricted by oxygen intake. It would be horrifying to let them have more.
Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today.
Technically plants do respire oxygen and produce CO2, its just that the photosynthesis process produces more O2 than they need, so its a net offset 🤓
There have been experiments done since the 1800s proving that plants can survive in a closed environment, presumably by regulating the amount they photosynthesise, so there probably wouldn't be a global loss of plant life
Assuming we have a surplus of oxygen istead: Things would catch fire pretty quickly and pretty intensely.
Frozen, but...
Who cares? Everything important would be dead. Photosynthesizing plants require CO2 to live.
Probably an ice age
Whole universe filled with air, while earth is surrounded by vacuum.
