I'm honestly loving the changes elon has made to twitter, its like every day I can wake up and see some dumb bullshit that they've done to the platform. I hope they ban the letter E next.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

nah if anything it'll be the letter T

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

Stop using Xitter, people. Let it die.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (6 children)

News, businesses, and celebrities continue to use it for some reason. It won't die until they stop.

Look how deep Twitter is in sports reporting. Any article about an event in a game (a goal, a hit in hockey, etc.) has the video... from Twitter. It's the default and just won't stop. Until that mindset changes, I'm afraid Twitter will continue to exist.

And that's an X with a Chinese pronunciation, no doubt.

Frankly, why do people still use that garbage of a platform?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Those still there don't know better (lots of millenials, and older, folks and those barely online), like Elon's changes, or are there passively (syndicating other feeds).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Network effect. People can't leave because the people they like to talk with are they and those people can't leave for the same reason.

Devil's advocate (kinda)

I'm not on Xitter, but I did see attempts to shit on cisgender people, and the word can serve as a slur or even ground for discrimination in certain contexts. Doesn't mean it should always be considered as such, but, hearing enough of what's normally going on Xitter, I wouldn't be surprised there's a genuine take behind such moderation.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah you can see the effect even with something simple like the words “Mexicans” or “Jews” or “Men”, depending on the heat and spin you put on the word it can either just be a descriptive word in a benign sentence or it can have a silent “those dirty fucking” just before it. So I can definitely see how some people have been using it as a slur but context matters and probably shouldn’t be blanket moderated

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Totally fair on your part!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

As a cisgender white man, I think the most offensive thing I could possibly do is be offended by what people call me or assume about me. Which, in a way I sort of wonder if that stance is also offensive, like I'm not even bothering to play on a level playing field. But, at the end of the day I know these attributes don't cost me any tier of opportunities... Maybe they cost me some specific opportunities but definitely not any level of equivalent opportunities.

The right wing are total babies.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I'd say we shouldn't strive to play on a level field of vulnerability or opportunities by bringing ourselves down, we should strive to make minorities less vulnerable instead, to care for their struggle.

People who are offended by "cis" are offended because they already think about "trans" as a negative thing. If they just considered "trans" a neutral descriptor of someone instead of part of a lesser/greater hierarchy, they would see "cis" as a neutral descriptor as well, which it is.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

I think it's just because Twitter is a hellhole that often uses it to invalidate people, if not as a straight up insult. It may not be a slur on its own, but it sure is often used like one.

I can't justify Elon banning it, especially over other slurs. But l sure as hell can see why people can be offended by it for reasons other than that they hate trans people

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (5 children)

I’ve always figured it offends them because if they accept the term they are de facto recognizing being trans is a thing at all. The term is only necessary if trans is a legit concept.

Well I must say there ARE people who uses it as a slur.

However feeling offended by it it's just ridiculous

Why aren't Twitter and Reddit dead yet?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (4 children)

I've been called "heterosexual white male", won't Musky do anything about that? I'm literally crying, we're the most attacked majority, life is unbearable for us!

That was so tight! I heard it went up! Even though the number seems smaller. I probably forgot.
