Even US organizations are warning against travel to some parts of the US. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Canada is, too.

I wish they'd name the states because some places are drastically worse than others

That would've been helpful, yeah.

The only issue I have is that it's an average of the overall state. California is pretty great; but not all parts. I happen to be smack dab in the middle of one of the more conservative areas. It's about as easy to find allies as it is to find bigots. Just a few months ago, there was a fucking pro-nazi rally in my city. I was disgusted.

Yeah definitely, policy/legality is very different from culture. Unfortunately I don't have a culture map available and don't know where someone can find one. Plugging into the local queer scene or asking for opinions from the community might be the only avenue to gather that info.

Seems like it would be safe to say all the red and orange states are places where a bunch of wankers vote for politicians that are actively trying to murder children. Yes, it's an inceiteful take, but it's also true that any so-called laws designed to destroy the morality of kids who already call themselves by a different gender are actually laws intended to raise the suicide rate. No, assholes, you're not "saving" anyone by refusing them mental health care or forcing their teachers to call them by their birth gender and dead names.

Name and shame the shithole red states

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

I suspect many there would take pride in this, not feel shame.

I am ashamed of us, though.

I fear that'd be a difficult page to maintain. It would be worth it though

I'm sure my state would consistently make the list, unfortunately

Click here to see the summaryAnti-LGBT protests in the US rose 30-fold last year compared with 2017, while legal moves to restrict LGBT rights are on the rise.

The term 2SLGBTQI+ is widely used in Canada for people who consider themselves two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning or intersex.

"Since the beginning of 2023, certain states in the US have passed laws banning drag shows and restricting the transgender community from access to gender-affirming care and from participation in sporting events," they told CBC News.

In March, Tennessee's governor signed laws banning drag performances in front of children and restricting medical treatment for transgender youth.

Two months later, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed bills banning children from undergoing transgender medical treatments or going to drag shows, and restricting pronoun use in classrooms.

On Monday, a mural in Florida dedicated to Belfast-born journalist Lyra McKee, who was shot dead in 2019, was defaced with a swastika and anti-LGBT graffiti.

But if people don't travel here then how do I get out? Maybe I can write up a will that'll get me buried or my ashed dumped somewhere better. Like... Kansas, apparently. Nah, too much to hope for.

Yeah, I'm still complaining and crying into the wind. There's nothing else for me to do but wait to die.

Didnt the education minister recently say some bullshit about pronoun and name changes are a decision the parents make? not trying to say the US isnt worse off it's just it feels like the start to the bullshit.
