I guess the attack took his eye. A real shame. This man spoke at our college once... he's an excellent writer, and he doesn't deserve the crap that's been piled on him over the years by religious fanatics.

I remember reading somewhere that other than the unfortunate loss of his eye, he has otherwise completely recovered. Although I'm sure he will never be the same psychologically. He had to live in hiding for years before that. What a way to have to go through life! But he absolutely deserves that award. He's a rabble-rouser, proud of it and good at it. And he's usually right too.

The saddest part of everything Salman Rushdie has gone through is that he is one of the best English novelists of the modern era but 90% of stories gloss over all his works except The Satanic Verses, which caused the problems.

My personal recommendations are Midnight's Children and The Moor's Last Sigh.

Check them out, they are great reads.

He's really brave. If I was attacked like he was, I'd probably never appear in public again.

I had no idea about any of this. My only knowledge of the guy was from the Seinfeld episode. Just read up on him and man that's fucked up. Religion fucking sucks, makes people nuts.

He was pretty great on Curb Your Enthusiasm as well.

Man did not know he was attacked in 2022 with a knife..

And it was at the Chautauqua Institute which is the basically a walled in community ultra-liberal retirees. Total shocking that it happened there.

Man, that thumbnail looked like he had a hole where his eye was. Lol

Well, he does. That's what happens when someone stabs you in the eye.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah, I'm not making fun. From the thumbnail, the dark lens on his right eye looks like a chunk of his face is missing.
