Hey! I realized that when embedding an image on Lemmy, most the time it shows as "Image" embedded as a link. Could it be possible to to automatically embed these images in the comment or post? I may be able to help a bit later today since it's open source. Thanks for this great app!

For example, I noticed in this post that when people are uploading images it would be great to show them automatically in the comment instead of going to each link individually.

EDIT: Actually, seems that the official Lemmy UI already does this lol

If this does get implemented, of course it should be an option, but taking it a step further, I’d love for it to be a 3-way option between showing the full size image, showing the text, or showing a small thumbnail to give you an idea of what you’re clicking on. Personally, I think the thumbnail would be the best solution, as I don’t love the idea of just anyone in the comments being allowed to post giant pictures on my screen as I’m scrolling through, but I also want an idea of what I’m clicking on before viewing a picture. A small thumbnail seems perfect for that.

Edit: oddly enough, I just realized I just described the behavior of Apollo, which like…duh. No surprises there.

I agree, I liked the way Apollo did it. Was streamlined so whole chains wouldn’t be taken up by images but gave a good enough idea if I wanted to open it or not.

This would be neat. I would like to have the option to hide them by default, though (keep as is). Before I was using voyager, I saw a couple of threads where someone was spamming scat porn in images in the comments, and they were totally unhidden and unblurred. So having an option to keep it as is, or possibly even adding a pop-up like RIF had to show you the URL before you follow the link would be good for those of us that are more cautious.
