Does this mean if we had a huge empty sphere in space, not around a star, (empty Dyson sphere) it could form a black hole with all the mass at the outside edge of the sphere?

I've been thinking about this alot, so if we change the scenario to the solar systems collides with a huge cloud of air just drifting in space, we would see the blue sky on the moving interface as the air spreads though the solar system.

It's quite magical in the minds eye.

Let's suppose we could dump enough "breathable" air (whatever that means for humans) into the solar system that it filled the spaces between planets.

What would happen?

A - I imagine it would then become possible to fly airplanes between planets, perhaps balloons? Would space travel become easier or harder?

B - According to another lemmy post, we would start to hear sound waves from the sun (A constant jackhammer sound - delightful)

C - Each each planet become the center of some mega cyclone (like the Jupiter storms, but bigger)?

D - At some point the air above us wouldn't be pushing down onto the earth at sea level, could we survive the additional pressure?

Over a long enough time span... everything returns to star dust

True, it was a really well done clone, but it was well done. The game worked. It wasn't terribly buggy.

My favorite theory is internal politics meant that the people who knew it was going to fail couldn't prevent the game from going live without extreme cost to themselves. And they would be blamed for it.

Letting the game go live, was probably the least politically expensive thing for them to do. Even though everybody knew the outcome

Birth rate declines as cultural stability and wealth increase. Period.

Does this mean that birth control doesn't prevent teenage pregnancy?

Birth Control for Economic Development: Reducing human fertility can raise per capita income in less-developed countries.

Family sizes are down, birth rates are now 1 per family, maybe 2 children.

This is due to many reasons but mostly

  • Hormonal birth control
  • Women entering the mainstream labor pool

Basically, there are better things for women to do then just have kids. This has a been a huge force multiplier for the economy

However, this means that family lines, genetic lineage, family names, dynasties... All rests on the shoulders of a single child. That's a lot of pressure.

When you had 10 children, and one or two were "special", it may have caused some drama but the lineage was still being secured by the other 8.

When there is only one child who then chooses a alternative life style that does not reproduce that means the END of a genetic line, the end of a name, the end of a dynasty, the end of a family. These things are hugely important to people.

I think people are more angry about sexual choices now, because they're more important, because people have less children.

Linux with packages, specifically debian with packages. It's fine and I'm happy it exists,

but... if your a security researcher, political dissident, hacker, etc you should be using Qubes inside of which you can run this debian distro if you want. you could even run Kali, and parrot at the same time!

Parrot OS is a Linux distribution based on Debian with a focus on security, privacy, and development

Concord is very polished. But it still seems fairly contained, a bunch of heroes, a handful of maps. Where did the 8 years go?

Firewalk studios has 169 employees as far as i can tell.

They use unreal engine, no single player campaign

Where did the time go?

Some communities, like fark, let you annotate users that you interact with so that when you interact with them in the future have an idea about the previous context with them.

I think that would be a good feature for lemmy, able to add a note/nick name that displays any time you see a comment or post by that user

If you find yourself having to block a user, there should be an option to block all the communities they can moderate as well.

Not a big issue, just a quality of life item

Setting up a Synology server, I made the mistake of just buying a UPS that had a USB plug on the back thinking oh this is a solved problem, it must just work. No no far from it.

So the UPS I mistakenly purchased is not compatible with Synology. SRV1KI-E wants to run this weird program called PowerChute.

Anyone have success marrying this into the Synology ecosystem?

It also has a RS 232 serial port, I wonder if there's an off-the-shelf device that would speak serial but output power state via the network or USB.

New Vegas Reloaded is officially available for download via Discord.

There are many other versions floating around the interwebs but it's HIGHLY recommended you use the latest nightly build, downloaded from the TES Reloaded Discord.

I'll point out, this site is hosted on GitHub, which distributes builds, and has build infrastructure....

Why are builds going through discord???!?! Insane

On stock aosp, and pixel android, I can auto rotate the phone up, left, or right, but if I turn the phone upside down the screen won't rotate.

Is there a way to enable upside down rotation? I think it would be quite useful.

I.e. When phone is charging, or hanging phone up by a strap, or when using a usb-c device and you want to prop it up on a desk

Is a lighter effective because it's on fire? Or just because it's hot?

If you made a lighter that was just as hot as another lighter, would it work just as well even if it had no fire?

I often find myself accidentally following the link of a post when I want to open the post and see the comments, rather than opening the post itself. That's because on my Voyager feed the post image is 95% of the post, and the title is a bit smaller.

Some people may prefer not to engage with the comments, but I would like an optional toggle to make any engagement with the post and the feed open the post itself.

For images, when touching the image makes the image bigger. This is no big deal. I just open the post. But when it opens an external web browser, the friction of going backwards is annoying.

pixel 5A 5G - zombie? (hackertalks.com)
submitted 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

I have the Pixel 5A 5G. It's been my main phone for 2 years. Love it. Two weeks ago it started to exhibit the well-known motherboard issue where the screen doesn't turn on. I've kept it on my desk since then, massaging it, cooling it, charging it and discharging it. And eventually it turns on for a few minutes and I back up my data and set up a new phone. So far so good.

Today, it turned on again, I double checked everything, and did a factory reset. And now it's working fine. The screens turning on every time....

I don't know if I can trust this device anymore, having the phone just die completely for 2 weeks isn't acceptable. I'm not sure if I have the BGA motherboard issue, where I actually need to get the CPU reballed, or if the factory reset was sufficient....

So now my phone is a zombie...

Anyone else have a similar experience with the 5As? I saw the resolution most people took was sending the phone back to Google, and getting either refurbished model or a pixel 6. But now that it's working that avenues not available to me

Update: the screen died after 5 hours of working, guess I'm now happy that it is infact a hardware issue and not firmware issue.
