[For CO2 storage to make a difference] the envisaged CO2 storage industry is comparable to the current scale of the hydrocarbon industry

lol, what.

70% of the projects proposed to be operational by 2020 were not implemented

only around 9 Mt yr−1 of a total capture capacity of 45 Mt yr−1 is injected for dedicated storage, with the rest used for enhanced oil recovery

So most of the time they just do it when it means they can get more oil.

Not lame, I appreciated it and as a result will be implementing ID-based pagination, sometime.

following the first report’s publication, TikTok disabled its hashtag measurement functionality in a move that made it impossible for the researchers to replicate their findings.

Reasons why racism on Lemmy is less of an issue:

  • There are only a few Lemmy instances - those that harbor racism are easily defederated from.
  • Downvotes make bad content easy to detect, even if not reported.
  • Content is posted into communities, which have moderators. Hashtags on Mastodon are un-moderated.
  • Unlike mastodon, replies are sent to all instances so visibility is higher. No hiding in obscurity.
  • Federated networks tend to have a central hub - Lemmy.world is well moderated, unlike mastodon.social.

To have any chance of doing serious CAD work in a VM you are going to need to set up GPU passthrough so the guest OS can access the GPU directly. AFAIK Virtualbox doesn't do this. Some hints about further research can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU_virtualization.

I strongly doubt Windows will be faster in a VM, that's a pretty bold claim. But it should be possible to get it to an ok level.

The article doesn't say the models of tank they've seen but NK has very few modern tanks and thousands of T-62 variants. They'll be sending the T-62s. Not very effective.

Edit: they're probably not tanks at all https://armyrecognition.com/news/army-news/army-news-2024/north-korean-bulsae-4-missile-system-reportedly-spotted-in-ukraine-for-first-time

Creatures of Place is an insight into the wonderful world of Artist as Family: Meg Ulman, Patrick Jones, and their youngest son, Woody. Living on a 1/4-acre section in a small Australian town, Meg and Patrick have designed their property using permaculture principals.

They grow most of their own food, don't own cars and ride their bikes instead, use very little electricity, and forage food and materials from their local forest.

On 28 April 2022, Just Stop Oil supporters blocked the entrances to Clacket Lane Services on the M25 by sitting in the road with Just Stop Oil banners. They also decommissioned the petrol pumps by breaking the display glass and covering it with spray paint. This action was taken in support of their demand for the UK government to end all new oil and gas projects in the country.

In a unanimous verdict delivered today by a jury at Guildford Crown Court, Just Stop Oil supporters Nathan McGovern, Rosa Sharkey, and Louis Hawkins were found not guilty of causing criminal damage.

Any jury may consider that the law itself is unjust. It is an important principle and indicates public opposition to aspects of law, in this case, the 'lawful' behaviour of fossil fuel corporations.

A study of 5.6mn courses at nearly 4,000 higher education institutions by Open Syllabus, a non-profit group, shows just 0.08 per cent mention critical race theory (CRT), structural racism, systemic racism or diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). The share is also very low for other sensitive topics including transgender issues, as well as for related textbooks. The figures cast doubt on the intensifying “anti-woke” criticism of US education by right-wing Republicans, etc

It's almost like it was all a fabrication to manufacture outrage.

Our results show that women's contributions tend to be accepted more often than men's [when their gender is hidden]. However, when a woman's gender is identifiable, they are rejected more often. Our results suggest that although women on GitHub may be more competent overall, bias against them exists nonetheless.

A German politician has been filmed taking large sums of cash from a Kremlin-supporting broadcaster, Czech intelligence has claimed.

Petr Bystron, who is standing for Alternative for Germany (AfD) at European parliamentary elections in June, allegedly received €20,000 (£17,000) in cash from the manager of a Russian propaganda network while sitting in a parked car, recordings indicate.

Mr Bystron, who also sits on the Bundestag’s foreign affairs committee, has previously denied allegations of taking Russian money as a “defamation campaign”.

The Security Information Service (BIS), the Czech Republic’s domestic intelligence agency, now says Mr Bystron met with Artem Marchevsky, who allegedly managed a Kremlin-backed propaganda front called Voice of Europe, at least three times in the past six months.

Am I worried for my families’ safety living in the Global South during this expected record-breaking hot season in 2024? You bet I am. But what worries me even more, is the millions of people living in tin shacks across this amazing region – whether in worker camps, slums, refugee camps, etc… How are they supposed to survive these heat extremes?
